September challenge and localism

I'm all for a challenge. It's rubber and road time. and there are others, equally insane, across the country, validating my instability of mind by joining me in this endeavor. And to think I have participated in several 30 day challenges before always ending with "never again" only to weaken with growing excitement.

With these challenges I learn a lot about people and lifestyles. With this dedication to Localism I expect to learn about places as well.

I promise you, come October 1, if you paint by the numbers and pay close attention, you will not only know heaps about Sandy UT, its environs, and inhabitants but you will become strangely desirous of visiting for a more intimate knowledge of the city that will become your "home away from home".

Terms to become familiar with (repeat often to increase familiarity)

Salt Lake County

Sandy City

Historic Sandy (where I live, hyper-local focus)

Midvale, Murray, Draper, South Jordan (minor surrounding cities added for emphasis and location)

Wasatch Front (our mountains, home of the greatest snow on earth, dry powder paradise.)

The Great Salt Lake, Lake Utah, Jordan River (decorative water features).

Larry - I think it's so interesting to learn about areas we've never visited. That said, I'll be stopping by to learn more about Slat Lake County, UT! Have a great Labor Day!

Good luck on the challenge.  Some people do need the motivation.

Kristine - so it begins. I look forward to your contributions. It should keep me up to date with your beautiful photography.

G'day Rodney - I haven't been your way since a visit in 1982. I'm sure to learn a lot from your posts about your care of your area.

I am looking forward to learning and seeing more of Utah.  I visted there many years ago, and don't recall very much.

Navona - A friend and I, yesterday, pacted to be outrageous (old enough for it to be blamed on senility). This is a great forum to experiment while enjoying all the contributions. I look forward to interacting with you again.

Joan - happy to be your guide. It's a great place to consider for retirement (ps always have an alternative for winter). Time for another visit. Christmas lights in the snow are magnificent.

Hi Larry.  I am so glad you are taking on the challenge.  I have never been to Sandy, but have been to the Salt Lake area many times.  If you could just move those mountains so they are west of town instead of east of town, I would feel right at home.
