We are faced with a historic choice here in northern Colorado," said Lilias Jarding, a spokesperson for Coloradoans Against Resource Destruction (C.A.R.D.). "We have been working to become the 'renewable energy capital' of the U.S. We can either continue on this path or allow non-renewable uranium to be mined here.

As you may of may not be aware serious issues are facing the Northern Colorado area right now. Up to as many as 5 companies are seeking permits to mine uranium in Larimer and Weld County's. As prices of Uranium reach all time highs the supply of low-grad uranium in Colorado has become a sought commodity. This is a scary proposition with long and far reaching consequences. I am sure many long time locals recall all the clean up that was needed on the old rocky flats nuclear facility. The cost total to consider that site "clean" was 7 billion dollars. With the growth in Northern Colorado's green energy sector my opinion is it would be a horrible idea to start a mining process that would have far reaching impact on our Air quality, wildlife, water quality, property values and health. Having seen the addition of Vestas Wind System a danish turbine plant to the windsor landscape and many other upstarts (csu's solar technology, New Belguims commitment to green energy) the green growth could see a major set back if this mining was allowed to begin.
