I just finished reading Missy Caulk's blog "Buying a House is Like Falling in Love". I too have fallen in love.

I have looked at thousands of homes on the Internet for my business, I have been inside hundreds of homes to stage or decorate and I have really liked some of them. I've never loved any of them. Until a couple of weeks ago I was looking at an agents website and there was my dream home! The house is exactly what I wanted when I first moved to Brighton, but we couldn't find one then. We didn't necessarily settle for the house we are in now, but it isn't my dream home ya know?

The problem is: Welcome to Michigan - I would never be able to sell my current home, I don't want to take the time to do what I know needs to be done (removing the orange paint from my son's wall and thousands of stickers from my daughter's door) to market it. I'm a stager and I would have to hire a stager because I think my home looks great the way it is! ( I know, I know!)

So alas, I continue to spy on my dream home. I drive by to see if they have moved out yet. I keep track of the price (it's gone down $10,000 so far. But I know it will never be mine...sigh.

Have you ever fallen in love with one of your listings (enough to buy it?)

Cari, yes!  But I also see houses that are not on the market that I would love to have as well.  I think we're not ever really satisfied with what we have.  I consider my home "staged to sell" but upon closer reflection the other day I too figured when I'm ready to sell I'll have to hire a stager.  Afterall, my home is only perfect for me, and there is no way I could ever figure out what needs to change.

Cari, I have never fallen in love with a home so much that I wanted to buy it.  I live in an apartment condo and love the convenience.  No lawn cutting, no snow shovelling, no raking of leaves.  One level - perfect for my husband and I.  But I can feel your longing and hope somehow you do get to buy that house.  Betty

Cari,  Not yet...I'm still dreaming of my perfect home on a beautiful lake, with my four season porch overlooking the sunset...not too big (don't want too much work) and not too small (don't want to feel trapped in a cubicle)!  Oh and don't forget the pontoon boat for my sunset cruises!

Cari - Yes! Yes! Yes!  And as I watched and waited for the price to fall apparently the seller tired of the market and took the home OFF the market.  'Tis OK with me though...I can wait her out :)

Isn't Missy's blog great?

Cari, thanks for the mention of my article. Yes, I too have fallen in love with houses along the way. But, like you I don't want to fix mine up to get in selling condition. If you love it and think it will come down, you could always try to sell yours. An agent in my office, just sold hers to the first person through. It wasn't even in the MLS yet, a neighbor told a friend. She took rent with an option until there current home on the market sells. Win-win.  It was in Hamburg.

Terry - The funny thing is that I love my house, my street, my neighbors (most of them), I have everything I need or want right here, it was just the perfect house - The rest of it may not be so perfect.

Thanks Betty, sounds like you have all you need.

Therese - take us for a ride on the pontoon when you get it?

Melissa, you just keep working as hard as you do and you'll have 3ML pretty soon!

Jackie, are you a stalker too? haha

Hi Missy, thanks for the inspiring blog - I knew exactly what you meant. I think that is what makes staging so rewarding is being able to create something that people fall in love with.

I am afraid to waste everyone's time, the sellers, the listing agent, my agent etc. Plus, I am fortunate that I don't have to move like some people in this state, I would hate to take the sale away from someone who needs it more.
