By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Koenig Rubloff Realty Group - Chicago, IL

Downtown Chicago BridgesRight on cue, Labor Day weekend saw temperatures drop about 20 degrees from recent weeks.   What better way to enjoy these refreshing cooler days than a nice walking tour of Chicago's iconic drawbridges over the Chicago River?

Beginning in September, visitors can go on two Saturday tours which coincide with "drawbridge season," when boaters begin taking their boats from Lake Michigan, up the river into winter storage.

Karen, how things have changed, I do not remember these tours while I lived in Chicago. When I left they were attempting to revive the Chicago river, guess that has happened.

Lisa, I just saw this on the news a couple of days ago.  It may be new this season.

Ted, trust me, this river is definitely "revived" now.  ;)
When you get another chance to visit, you'll find plenty to do including river boat rides and eating at some of the river-walk restaurants.

Far cheaper than any other outing or date you could plan and you get to be outside AND you get to learn.  Sounds like 2 great tours.

Hi Laura, Chicagoans love taking tours.  I've also learned that a lot of Chicagoans love being docents and given all these fantastic tours to city visitors.

Karen-There is lots of stuff to see in Chicago. Nice picture pf the many bridges in downtown. The Water Taxi is a nice closing touch. Tours that have a water component are fun.

Hi Wayne,  I almost take these bridges for granted since I walk or drive across them several times a week.  I used to cross them several times a day before my real estate life.   I have to admit it is fun to see the bridges being raised to let boats pass -- as long as you're not late for an appt. :)
