Is There A Draft In Your Blog?

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Moline Realty 40022101

Lately I have found myself writing late at night.  My posts are being published at midnight, 1:00 AM, and I find that I get very few comments, and no discussion on the topic - much less a feature, or recognition. Asleep at the computer

So I've decided that I need to start posting DURING THE DAY when every other semi-normal creature is awake.  However, I can't seem to get five minutes to spare during the day to write a blog post.

So the midnight blog snacking continued.

Then I discovered a beautiful AR feature that I simply had not used at all.  It was the "post as a draft" feature.

How awesome is this?  First of all, I can send my message out when you are all bright eyed and bushy tailed, and I might actually get some comments!  That idea in itself is exciting.

How about the added benefit that I can quickly proof a pre-written blog before I post it while the sun is out?  Midnight writing can be a hit or miss - sometimes I write something awesome, which makes me so happy.  Other times I don't even know what I was trying to say.

What about when you write something, are in the middle of it and come up with an added comment you'd like to make on the topic - but it needs some research.  Why not just post it as a draft and come back to it later?

SunWhat if you want to write something, you have some spare time, but you don't want to show it to the world for a couple days?  (A new ad campaign, an event, etc.)  Post it as a draft and then return to it when you're ready to release it from its "drafty" cage and into the AR world!

So run free, fellow Active Rainers, and enjoy the freedom and bliss of the "draft" setting.  (And next time you see a midnight post by me, feel free to flag it for a feature!!!!)

Joslyn,

Publishing posts during peak times definitely gets you more exposure and comments and the other good stuff. Some members write their posts in Word, save it and then when they are ready they copy and paste it to AR.

Ken - Or in the past!  I love that feature!  I can post date so that it doesn't look like I'm throwing everything out there in one afternoon!  However, in Active Rain that isn't such a desired feature.

Charles - I believe that to be very true!  Thanks for the tips!

Jason - Thanks for the comment!  I feel special now!  My only draft fear is that I will forget about one and it will get buried in the depths of my blog!

Esko - I have done the whole save-in-word thing, but it seems like I always forget about it then.  I love saving it on AR!  Thanks!

great tip Joslyn, I have not used that feature yet.

I find myself starting blogs in Notepad  if I don't have all the content or pictures quite ready.  I also dread working long and hard on a blog only to have a crash and lose it all.  It's always good to save it when half baked ( the blog that is).

This is a good string.  I'm new to this as well, but I find many of my posts that do better have more common interest topics.  I'm still working on finding a non-inflamatory 'hot-button' that engages the folks.  When that happens it can be a lot of fun.  Best of luck.

Georgina - I hate losing a blog halfway through, too.  And since I'm easily distracted, I try to save as a draft if I think there's a chance that I might get up and wander off.

Little ADD?  Quite possibly.... or maybe too much Mountain Dew.

Keith - That's very true.  It seems like to get a good discussion going you have to write a controversial post that flares up a few tempers.  (I like having my temper flared, though!)  People react to what they are passionate about.  :)

Karen:

I would love to do a draft. But where is that feature located at. Some of my neighborhood posts in localism take quite a bit of time to wirte, so this is a great feature. That is if I knew where it was located at.

Love the "draft"... early on I lost one too many posts while writing and something went haywire with the computer.   Then came "draft"..............ahhhhhhhhhhhh  and the world was better again.   Nice post..

Joslyn- We actually just started using the draft ourselves. We always felt we had to write our blogs and post them right away. Gotta love that draft!!!

I've got SEVERAL drafts in my blog!  Often people think that I just crank these things out but I may have written some of it weeks ago.  Heck, you read one that I'm introducing on here about a year ago?

Great Post Joslyn!  Great information and strategy.

Anyways....I wanted to talk you about that e-mails.  Give me a call on my cell when you have time.

Helloooooo, Joslyn!

I love this feature - I use it all the time. It means I can write and write, but not post all of them at the same time. And have time to re-read what I've written before posting...and, you know, take a breath! =)

Jill - It's in the visibility tab, where you pick "public" or "members only" - you can choose "draft" there.

Gary - I was wondering why it's always so cold in your blog.  :)  Shut the door!

Desiree - Thank you!  It saves some pain and heartache!

Rick and Lynn - :)  How have you been?

Jess - Thanks.  I do crank mine out all at once....lol

Keith - Good, I'll keep posting night blogs then!  Just for you.

Tyghre - That's an awesome idea, too!  I should try that sometime!

Jess - Time,  what's that?  Will do.

Maura - Are you like me, and get TONS of ideas all at once, and you're scrambling to write them all up, and then you pump out like 4000 blogs in two days, and then run out of ideas and have nothing for three weeks?  That's what I love about "drafting".

Joslyn ~ I love the "draft" mode because it means I can get my ideas down and then "refine" them at a later time.  I know what you mean about the midnight posts - I felt like I wasn't being seen as well.  With the time difference (West Coast) and never knowing when a good time to post was I decided to just do what I can when I can and believe somehow, someway it will get noticed.

Joslyn, I didn't even know about the draft mode.  I usually save my blogs somewhere else until I'm ready to post them.  Thanks for the tip!
