Observation???

OK here is the story line and I’m sure you’ll figure out the rest of the story before I get there.  Several months ago as I was driving the family truck a Tyson tractor-trailer rig rounded a corner and needless to say a rock flew up and cracked the windshield.  It just wasn’t a minor hit it was a major one.  The wife complained about it for months and Monday I took the vehicle and had the windshield replaced.  I met her at her mother’s place and exchanged vehicles.

I drove the car home and waited in high anticipation of a phone call but it never came.  I called and she was still at her mother’s visiting.  A little while later she called and was headed home and we were going out to eat.  When she pulled up I got in the truck and headed off to the restaurant.  While we were in route I asked her if she had noticed anything different and to make a long story short of course by now you have figured out she had not.

When I told her it was like a revelation so that got me to thinking.  I always think about things that would make my job easier or different then other agents to attract sellers and buyers to me.  Really how observant are you or do you just look at the outer surface and not dig into the depths of the client and what they really meant to say or for some what they actually said?

When you look at a contract do you give it a casual glance or do you look at it line for line and see what is said?  If you don’t one of these times it will come back and bite you.  the decision is yours so now “What say you”?

James: I agree, we can't just give the contract a once over. Shortcuts like that can cost our clients dearly. Great post. Have to tell you - when I read this quickly the first time, I thought you said the famiily truck was a Tyson semi. LOL

Good morning James. I appreciate your mindset here and agree. In my view it goes to assumotions and we never know what our clients understand until we ask them. Have a good day.

HI JIM!  I say, I glance at contracts that are ones I've read many times.  I look for anything that is written in or scratched over and then re-read several times.  I do notice things though - I would have noticed the fixed windshield but that doesn't mean I still can't be extra careful not to get bitten!

In today's age of technology, it pays to read it over. I have seen contracts expertly changed from their original language costly people dearly. Joushua and Patricia have it summed up! Enjoy your day!

It's too bad about the window...just messing with you of course I read the whole post. I know a sellers agent that got in real trouble over a special assessment that his owner was forced to pay due to the fact that he signed a contract without reading it through.

So true, if we are missing the surface think what is deeper that we are missing too.  Good point.
