Wildfires burning out of control in Central Texas close to Katy

By

About 90 miles Northwest of Katy, Texas as the crow flies is the small charming town of Bastrop, Texas. Unfortunately this small town has been fighting wildfires fo rthe past 48 hours. The severe drought that Texas has suffered this year is partly responsible. Over 476 homes have been lost many residents have been evacuated. Please pray for them. There are many fire departments fighting this huge wildfire some are from nearby locations such as Katy, Texas, The Department of Forest Service as some as far away as Alabama. We are staying ( hubby and I ) at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop. This is usualy a easy under 2 hour drive from Katy, Texas Lost Pines is right on 71 close to the fires. Luckily the wind is blowing the fires away from us at this time. This is a great destination place from Katy, Texas

These pictures were taken from Highway 71 heading East. 25,000 acres have been burned here in Bastrop over 5,000 people have been evacuated. Please as stated earlier pray for these people.

Yolanda,

Those are really good shots of the wildfire. I will pray for the victims and all of those folks who might be in harms way. Be safe.

Yolanda, I heard about this.  We used to go camping around there when the kids were younger.  And my parents witnessed another fire being put out just south of Brenham, TX from a car wreck at the side of the road that spread to the forest.  Scary!

I hope your wildfires are put out soon. We have our own just about 12 miles from our house and everything we own now smells strongly of smoke.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone. This seems to be the year for all types of natural disasters. I wonder if Mother Nature is angry with us for not taking care of her Earth.

Your fire clouds look very much like our marine layer although obviously your fire clouds are a lot more serious.

It seems like every time we turn on the news fires have broken out in a new area here in Texas. We had a couple up here at Canyon Lake yesterday and today but the fire department was able to get them quickly under control. Just continues to be hot, dry and windy. Pray for rain and soon.

Have a good week.

My son lives in Katy, TX. Are the wildfires under control or still heading towards Katy? Thank you, I'm in NYS, and there is very little news coverage as to what is happening in TX.
