Lion and Tigers and Bears ... in Colorado!

There are hundreds of lions, tigers, bears, servals, cougar, wolves, and more. I found www.WildAnimalSanctuary.org when I searched for 'Things to do in Colorado'. I noticed the recommendation to visit in the evening, especially when they are cooling off from summer's heat.  So that's what we did.

Arriving about 5:30, we stayed until the Sanctuary closed at 7:30.  It was fun to watch the big cats 'come alive' as the sun set. Even the ones that didn't get very active at least turned to face the sun.animal sanctuary, denver to boulder

My amateur photos were taken with a Nikon D80 and a telephoto lens with a power of 200, for those of you who are interested. You view the animals from a walkway above the habitats, so bring binoculars for the best experience.  You can also bring a picnic meal, or get snacks there.

Please visit the WildAnimalSanctuary.org website for more information. There's a lot to tell, but for now just enjoy some photos.

Joetta, I'll have to add this place to my list of to dos.   I love the first tiger picture that you shared with us here.  The "big cat" really comes out in this photograph.

William - 400 would be fun to play with, but I was worried about these coming out. The walkway shakes just a bit as people walk by, the wind was blowing pretty hard and I didn't have a tripod. I'm sure a tripod is a must with a 400!

Pam - we both did enjoy the evening, but I am crazy about big cats and have never been able to enjoy the circus or even the zoo because I can only think of where they 'should' be. These animals are all rescued from abusive situations and there is no breeding, so I could let my guard down and enjoy the fact that they are being given their best life possible.

Brenda - that's what I hear a lot of people say, and it was true for me too. They said that only 20% of the support they need comes from admission fees, I'm sure they could do better.  They are constantly asking for volunteer help, I may volunteer to do fund raisers or awareness activities.

Sondra - I was kicking around the idea of doing an AR meetup but couldn't think of a unique place to do it.  Maybe this would be a good spot, what do you think?
