Fountainhead Regional ParkLocated in Fairfax County VA and at the widest point of the Occoquan Reservior, Fountainhead Regional Park offers something for just about everyone.  Managed by the Northern Virginia Park Authority the 2100 acre park is a popular with fisherman, mountain bikers, hikers and families who are looking for a place to have a picnic.

Unlike some parks where hikers have to share the path with mountain bikers, Fountainhead Regional Park has separate trails for both.  The 8 miles of mountain bike trails are highly rated by local bikers and considered to be among some of the most difficult in the area.  For hikers you can follow a number of well marked trails and if you are ambitious you can hike all the way to Bull Run Park in Centreville.  

Fountainhead Regional Park Blue TrailAnglers love Fountainhead Regional Park for the great fishing,  The Occoquan Reservoir is known for its largemouth bass, bluegill, catfish and northern pike.  The park offers a boat ramp for launching your own small electric motor power boat.  For kayakers the park is perfect spot to drop in your boat and watch the Osprey fly overhead.  The park also offers a basic 18 whole minature golf course and picnic tables.  If you are having a larger gathering you can reserve one of the picnic shelters.

For a little bit of history, at the start of the blue hiking trail you will find the Davis family cemetary established in the mid 1800's.  A home that used to stand on the site was destroyed during the civil war.  If you are looking for a spot to enjoy a few hours or all day then look no further than Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax County.
