Open House Etiquette......Some Pointers!

So here is the deal with Open Houses, Model Homes etc. We have four houses in my neighborhood all new construction, four different builders, four completely different floor plans.
Saturday and Sunday we open them up for people to take a look at, I stay in the sales office. The first thing I do when I get here is go around to all the houses and turn on all the lights, adjust the thermostats, turn on all the sound systems, TV’s etc.
I unlock all the back and side doors and screen doors, (I have been locked out of houses and having to walk around to the front in socks...not fun).

So, if you are taking a tour of new houses and you walk in and all the lights are on, then it is safe to assume they want them left on.

If the door to the unfinished storage is closed then it’s best to leave it closed, by leaving it open in the middle of summer the AC unit goes into overdrive.

If the sound system throughout the house is set on a certain station, volume, then it’s safe to assume they want it left there and by turning up the volume you scare the people behind you.

If you have kids of, say the three feet variety, best if they are not allowed smash their hand prints on every window they can reach!!
If you are going to use the bathroom please look for the one with the soap and towels....right, you knew that right, tell me you knew that!
If you have to use the bathroom do so in the house where the water is turned on, and then...... see above!!
If there is a bowl of candy left out don’t allow your children or yourself to empty the bowl into their pockets, Halloween etiquette applies!
No Dogs.....I know, crazy right!!
Don’t take the pens I left unless they have a please take pen sign.
If you could check your shoes for sharp objects ( stilettos) we would appreciate you taking them off.
Other than that, enjoy the house spend all day in there if you like, roll around on the carpet, pretend to cook Thanksgiving dinner in the state of the art kitchen and serve it in the dining room. Tell your family to pause the game on the 55 inch television
and............

Great advise!  Amazing what the bottom of shoes can do to a home! I'm always surprised by the empty bowls AND the wrappers left all over the counter!
