Going to the Dogs in Shelton CT - Applause for Paws

Owning a dog is a BIG responsibility that should not be taken lightly.

It’s SO easy to fall in love with a little puppy and purchase or adopt it without giving it serious thought.

Is the breed right for you?

Is the breed right for your living conditions?

Are you educated in dog training, food and grooming?

Do you know about wellness care and flea, tick and heartworm prevention?

If you would like answers to these questions and more or if you just want to have some fun and check out some animal vendors, then be sure to stop at the Applause for Paws dog event on Saturday, September 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Riverwalk on Canal Street in Shelton CT hosted by the Trap Falls Kennel Club.

Applause for Paws will be featuring police dog search & rescue demos, American Kennel Club (AKC) obedience matches and demos, and ‘Meet the Breeds’ where you can  learn about breed characteristics.

Bring your dog (leashed) to see how well mannered s/he is by participating in the AKC Canine Good Citizen® Test.  Enter your dog in the best dressed or best kisser contest for some fun.

September 10 is designated  AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day the purpose of which is to educate novice dog owners and to help experienced owners enhance their relationship with their pet.

Read and sign the responsible pet promise on the American Kennel Club  website.

What does Applause for Paws cost?  No admission charge. FREE ….BUT …. Your generosity in donating pet care items, which benefit Presents 4 Pets, an organization that helps homeless animals, shelters, and rescue organizations would be greatly appreciated.

Come on out to the Applause for Paws event on Saturday, September 10 in Shelton CT.  Bring the family and your dog if you have one and pick up some tips on keeping your “best friend” healthy and happy and have some fun while you’re at it!

Barbara, cute puppy. Teaching pet owners how to take care of and keep their little ones happy and healthy is a lot more responsibility than they think. Applause for Paws sounds like they try to make people think responsibly.

Barbara,

Excellent lead in to a localism event. I like how you told everyone about the responsibilty of owning a dog.

Barbara, I don't think that many dog owners think of the things that you mentioned, but should before they take on the responsibility of a dog.

Ed -- Those puppies are my 'relatives'  LOL!  You picked up on the most important point of this event.  Responsible pet ownership.  It breaks my heart when I hear of people who just love those puppies, but when the grow up they dump them out or they just were not ready to handle the responsibility in the first place.  This event is as much about education as it is about fun.

Bob -- Thanks ... and ditto on my responsibility comment to Ed.

George -- Exactly. They don't. That's why there's so much abuse of those poor defenseless animals.

Barbara - In all the news we hear lately about the abuse of animals I almost think that before someone even purchases a dog they get the proper training and education on how to be responsible owners in the health and well being of their pets. BTW...I want that cute little puppy! :)

Hi Barbara - I love dog events and this one sounds like a great one, especially donating items for dogs in need! Have fun!

Donna -- Maybe that should be a requirement of pet ownership.  It would certainly cut down on the horrible things people do to animals.

Isn't he so sweet?  He acts just like he looks!

Peggy -- Yes, all those items go to local shelters and rescue organizations.  Certainly a good cause.
