"Bat's" in the 'House'?

Many homes in Humboldt County are surrounded by large trees.  These large trees are wonderful to live amongst.  However, they also attract Bats.  Bats are wonderful creatures who help to control the insect population.  We all need to cultivate their growth.

Unfortunately, Bats do end up in homes on occasion.  They will fly in an open door and then the fun begins.  Feline residents of the home will be the only ones to enjoy their visit.

Removing them without causing them harm is a challenge.

One way to safely remove them from your home involves using a large paper grocery bag and a tennis racket (don't just whack the bat with the tennis racket, that will harm them and bats are very useful creatures), place the tennis racket in their flight path and let them fly into it. The collision will stun them and that gives you the opportunity to tip them into the paper bag with the tennis racket after they have fallen, then close the bag quickly and transport them outside for a safe release.

No matter what do not allow the bat to access your attic.  You could have a major problem if they decide to move in permanently!

Dan-thanks for the tip on removing bats. I had them in my Idaho house a few years ago with extremely high ceiling, it was a challenge getting them out.

Oh Boy - I think this is beyond me - I would call in someone!  In fact this is very timely as my husband had to go to the attic this a.m. because something pushed in the screen - So we may just be using your timely info - HIM not ME!

This just happened to us. We came home and found a bat in our living room. My cat was after it don't how long it was there.  We had it checked out for rabies due to our cats interaction with it. This was not fun and I felt bad for the bat.

Bats do a great deal to control insect populations but they are a problem when they enter a home.
