I’m sure you’ve seen the news of the wildfires in Texas. Nearly 600 homes in Central Texas have been destroyed as a result of the fires, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of acres of land. In Bastrop County alone, near Austin, there were 63 new fires over the holiday weekend that burned over 40 square miles. Currently there are fires burning in most parts of the state.
These fires are so devastating and when it comes to damage they can realistically be compared to other natural disasters such as tornadoes and hurricanes. It’s important for people across the country to realize that people have lost their entire home and every single possession in that home. There are times in a hurricane when a damaged home can still contain salvaged pictures and heirlooms. With these fires, people are losing everything…the homes and all inside are now dust. Just as America would come to the assistance of tornado and hurricane victims by donating to the Red Cross and other organizations, it’s just as important to help the victims of these fires, which are still overwhelming state as we speak.
