Dan,

I totally agree, the condition of the lawn will definitely help sell a property or help not sell, and ofcourse it is tough in place where there are water bands!!

Lawns in this area of Humboldt County, California must be appealing.  We have no shortage of water here, so there should be no excuses for the condition of your lawn!

If you will be placing your home on the market for sale in the future, take a good look at your lawn now.  Does the lawn add to the curb appeal of your home?  If not, it is time to take action!  The curb appeal of both your home and your lawn are an important aspect in finding a buyer!

If you have ignored the lawn in the past, it may take some time to restore it.  Get started now.  If you do not have the time to do the work yourself, hire a lawn care company to do the job for you, it will be money well spent.  Lawn care companies know how to improve the appearance and the quality of your lawn quickly.  Obtain references and check them before committing to their service.  Let the lawn care company know the reason for your interest, you want to sell!

Otherwise, go get the 'weed and feed' and apply it, start mowing the lawn on a regular basis, get the lawn 'edged', if there are bare spots replace them with sod etc., all your efforts will be rewarded when you place your home on the market for sale.

If you are going to do the work on the lawn yourself, do not hesitate to ask for advice from your neighbors (those that have a beautiful lawn) and from the staff at your local garden center.
