The pictures below were taken by a friend of mine who lives in Mission Viejo, CA....they were taken from their back yard.  Thankfully the fire is far enough away that it did not affect my friends, except for the smoke.  From the looks of the pictures the fire was very close to them.  We need to keep all of southern California in our thoughts and prayers as they battle these fires.  My daughter and son-in-law, who went to southern California for their honeymoon made it home with no problems.  They were not in San Diego county but had to travel interstate 10 to get home (the backside of the fires).

Wow, it's hard to imagine unless you're there but the photos give you an idea of how bad.

Mary - Very dramatic photos. It really is such a horrific amount of fire and destruction, and yet it  for looks so beautiful in photos.  I am glad your friend is ok and I pray for everyone is California, that they heed the warnings to leave when told.

Amazing shots, Mary.  I hope that your friend's place is kept safe from the destruction.  We have all Southern Californians in our prayers!

P.S. You can edit this out of my comment, but I wanted to let you know that California is misspelled in your title.  Have a great night!

Fire is dangerous, beautiful, and fascinating. It's no wonder some get themselves in trouble taking that once in a lifetime photograph. I hope your photographer friend remains safe.

My husband got an email from his step sister.  She says the people that are walking around San Diego have crusty eyes and bloody noses.  She works downtown and I guess there is no traffic and said it is like an old war movie.  Great pics, thanks for sharing them!

WOW........ that is some stuff happening over there......

If it is not a hurricane here in Florida or a tornado in the mid west...it is something else.....

I am glad we have the Lord to cling to in trials......

I say again.... WOW!!

Mary-That just takes my breath away looking at those pictures.  I'm so glad your friends, daughter and son-in-law are doing well.  I do pray for this to stop soon.  The image of what those people are going through is horrific.

I am in San Diego and I haven't seen people running around with crusty eyes and bleeding noses but yes it is incredibly smokey and scary to all of us here and all thoughts and prayers are appreciated by everyone here, there has been significant loss.

People have begun returning to work and traffic has picked up today but the air quality is still not good and people for the most part seem to be staying indoors or at least not lingering outside longer than necessary.

WOW!!  Those are really scary pictures.  I don't know where I was hiding but I just found out about this yesterday or maybe the day before.  I am keeping those affected in my prayers.
