It was a day to contemplate.  I said goodbye to my kids & 2 year-old grand daughter today as they went off on a 1 year junket to Japan.  It's a crazy life these days and a very tough goodbye.  No better time to get on my bike to ride ...and think.  As I get older, I understand life less & less...but cherish the moments more & more.

Sandpoint's Long Bridge

The Long Bridge stretches nearly two miles across the Pend Oreille River as it enters Sandpoint city center.  (The jagged peaks way off in the distance (toward the left side) is the Selkirk Crest, one of the largest roadless areas in North America.)

Sandpoint's Long Bridge underpass

The bike path winds its way under the bridge with a view down the Pend Oreille River toward Priest River and, eventually, the Columbia River Basin.

Long Bridge East View - RR Trestle

The Bike Path runs, literally, right along the Pend Oreille shoreline.  The body of water east of the railroad trestle off in the distance is Lake Pend Oreille (Lake Pend Oreille is over 65 miles long, 148 square miles & up to 1,150 feet deep!).

(By the way, my daughter just skyped from Japan and the family arrived safely.  Life is good).

HI KENT!  Awwhhh....didn't they just do a year in Germany?  Maybe a trip to Japan is in your future!  Nice way to work out those emotions - it must have been hard!  This is beautiful - some friends just moved to Spirit Lake and often on their Facebook page I see things in and around Sandpoint that they are doing - I'll have to share this with them!  Take care!
