How High is the Foreclosure Rate in Knoxville TN

I rarely watch the news anymore as it has become overrun with negative stories and reports.     I think what kind of impression someone would have of our country if the only source of information they had access to was the news?  I am quite certain they would get the impression that our country and the average Americans life was nothing short of a horror story.

Sure there are disasters and bad things that happen, but there is also a lot of good and many reasons to celebrate. As a local full time REALTOR®, I often get asked, “so how bad is the market right now?”  Most people seem to think it is absolutely horrible; by to people talk you would think almost everyone out there is hanging by a financial thread.

Therefore, I thought it is time to report some good, positive news for once.  For example, recent reports shows that over 30% of all homeowners own their homes outright….they owe no mortgage…own if free and clear.

According to Realty Trac, in July 2011, in Knoxville, TN there were 190 Foreclosed Properties.  That is 1 out of every 1041 were in foreclosure.  When I told a friend this amount, there comment was “wow that is a lot”, but really what does translate to?  From a percentage stand point only 0.096% of all Knox County homes are in foreclosure.  If you take this number and compare it to other things, you can see just how few Knoxville homes are in Foreclosure and how fortunate we are compared to other areas.

As Monty Python said in The Life of Brian, “Always look on the bright side of life”

Homes in Foreclosure in Knox County, TN- 1 out of 1041

Odds of Being Audited by the IRS- 1 out of 175

Odds of having your identity stole- 1 out of 200

Odds of catching a ball at a major league ballgame: 563 to 1

One size fits all does not work in your wardrobe, in news gathering because the country last look was pretty big, varied. Just keep reporting the good news, don't repeat anything negative in the tone of your blog. Make it a habbit to not run with the herd wearing the "R" and take the high road. I am some kind of lucky to live in a state that is 46th lowest for FSSR.  The places where it is not nip and tuck, low cost and a pleasure to live there need more press. You and I are the new age jounalists at the cyber helm of the media streams.

I get asked this too, and some folks that I run into seem to always paraphrase the the doom & gloom reports in the national news. Of course, there are a lot of folks in our area, and not in the real estate industry, that are market savvy and realize each city has it's own trends. Honestly, I am finding more people are market savvy than are not, in Knoxville. That, I find encouraging.
