I read a blog post yesterday about a broker whose clients read an email and then praised her writing talents. What a lot of people don't know is that real estate is hard. I think some people don't realize that we are trying to sell or find a home for them even when we aren't sitting with them face-to-face. Some people also don't realize that every now and then things change and a broker has to know what has changed and how. I also think that they don't realize that a large part of our job is negotiating. We have to be able to look out for our client's best interest without ruffling the feathers of the other broker and their clients. The way we deal/talk/relate to the other broker and their clients can either ruin or seal the deal for our client.
This post isn't about all of the trials and tribulations a broker has to go through to do their job, it is about the little things that a client does to show that they appreciate us. I'm not sure about most brokers but I give a little house warming gift to every client that lets me find the house for them as a thank you but most brokers don't get praise from their clients. I'm not saying that all clients need to thank their broker or give them a word of praise but a little bit can go a long way. I sold a house a few years ago and the clients still invite me to their barbecues and get togethers. That client makes the more "difficult" ones easier to handle. So if you are a client right now take a moment to say if you like something that your broker is doing, I mean we're all human, a little appreciation is a good thing from time to time.
