The much anticipated new permanent exhibition at the Banning Museum has finally opened. The “Improbable Gateway,” an exhibit that depicts the Port of Los Angeles’ transformation into a transportation mecca, opened last weekend to a large crowd. This is a remarkable story of the entrepreneurial spirit, perseverance and the vision of pioneer individuals like Phineas Banning. Because of his insight in creating a large commerce port, these dreams took staging and freight lines into the deep water harbor of Los Angeles.
