Doc's All American in Delray Beach- Think Happy Days Meets our Village By the Sea!

It may not look like much but Doc's All American has landed itself on Delray Beach's Historical Register ( this baby's here to stay... it can't be torn down!) Located at the corner of Swinton and Atlantic Avenue, residents and visitors have been coming here since it opened in the early 1950's.
We've been treating ourselves to a Doc's burger since we moved to Delray over 24 years ago, and it's still our favorite place to go after a day at the beach. Looking for a gourmet mushroom, whole wheat, avocado burger? You won't find it here. The burgers and fries are as 50's American as the Fonz himself.
You can't get more casual than Doc's... orders are placed at the walk-up window, and dining is outside on their covered patio. What better way to enjoy Delray Beach's great weather! And if you have some time, you can walk across the street to Delray's Old School Square or head west and check out Delray Beach's Tennis Center, home to the Chris Evert Celebrity Tennis Classic.

Good morning Kathy,
I can sure see why Doc's made it on Delray's Historical Register..looks like the perfect spot to go after the beach. Your description definitely makes me think of the Fonz and Happy Days!
Morning Kathy-you know I have never been there but know exactly where it is-I am going to have to stop in someday soon after I take Peanutman up to visit his friends at Lake Ida dog park!
Good morning, Kathy....Doc's looks like a great place to hang out and have lunch....and now it's on the Historic Register and there forever....
Kathy, love places like Doc's....what a great place! Have to look for it when I head your way....
I used to live in Boca Raton and spent a lot of time in Delray. I have never even heard of Docs. It looks wonderful and thank you for posting about it. I will have to stop in the next time I am down that way. Sounds amazing! Thank you!
You know that's my kind of place BARFF..........reminds me of one of my favorite places in NYC, Ellen's Stardust Diner, right out of the 50's.................love it!
My husband is a bone-fide Meat-a-Saur and would love this place. Good to see a local treasure will be around for new generations to enjoy. Good local post Kathy.
Kathy, every community needs a treasure like Docs! That expansive overhang has to be an inviting place to sit in all that shade on a hot Florida day!
Kathy, I should have eaten breakfast this morning! I could almost taste the hamburger and fries!
Hi Kathy. Since I don't eat meat, I'll have to skip the burger, but I'll have fries and a milkshake. You made Doc's sound like a great little beach town hangout. Cute spot.
Well...I now know where I am going to eat if I ever visit Delray's Beach! Doc's! It's terrific news to hear that a slice of Americana that Delray's resident's and visitors have enjoyed since the 1950s isn't going any where! Too cool and what a terrific post to show it off Kathy!
Kathy, Doc's looks like my kind of place. I love places that just keep it simple and fun.
Dorie- it's very much like that. It's not for the gourmet burger diner but it's so much fun to eat out and watch everyone as they go by.
Marco- all you have to do is exit Atlantic in Delray>go east into the downtown area> and it's on the northwest corner of Atlantic and Swinton. And... it's only about 10 minutes from the dog park in Lake Ida!
BarbaraT- It's been there since we first moved here and it's nice knowing that some things won't be torn down for some new big box store.
Barbara M- give me a heads up and I'll buy!!!
Diane- Hope you do! It's just across the street from Old School Square, where the huge Christmas tree goes up every year!
BARFF- I love diners!!!! There's something nice knowing that you're eating regular food and not something with a foo-foo name.
Anita- so is mine. I'm not a huge meat eater but I love hamburgers... real ones.
Bruce- you're so right... with our afternoon showers and the sun, the cover is perfect.
Connie- I have an unusual day today... eating breakfast, lunch and dinner out. I never do that.
Debb- you know what... I'm just as happy with a good veggie burger and lots of mustard! I let myself have one chocolate malt a year.
Brenda- Thanks! We may head there this weekend!
Good Grief Kathy your making me hungry. That mushroom avocado sounds scrumptious. Its always good to see such and Iconic place hit the historical register. Sounds like your favorite place Doc's will be around for a very long time.
We have one downtown that looks and sounds exactly like this (only yours looks much cleaner :) ) I love it when these places have been able to hang on thru the decades.
It looks like it's straight out of Happy Days! Add it to the list of places I want to see when I visit you someday!
John- I hope it will be! Families love taking the kids there.
Mimi- there's something nice about that, isn't there. So many places come and go these day.
Sharon- Come on down... but first we have to go to Green Cay!
