Being a business owner who has seen recessions come and go, I always get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see national chain stores and restaurants show up in my community.  I recently posted about our two new restaurants, Carrabba's and Longhorn Steak House that are being finished right now.  That's exciting!

But, when I see retail chains bringing new business to the area I get really excited.  If the company has done their homework they have realized that demographically there is a market here.  The latest of our national chains is "Hobby Lobby."

I became familiar with Hobby Lobby when I lived in Tulsa and Broken Arrow, OK in the early 1980s.  It was amazing.  Years later, when we traveled back to Tulsa, I introduced my wife to the mega hobby store.  She was in love!  My wife is a very crafty lady, and Hobby Lobby is a crafter's dream come true.

It doesn't matter if you're into flower arranging, rubber stamping, model cars and airplanes, woodworking and wood-burning, scrap-booking or a dozen other hobbies - they have it all, and they have some of the finest employees you will ever meet.  It is like a hobbyist wonderland.  So, along with the rest of Winchester, VA, I welcome Hobby Lobby to our great community.

Mike, We have one here and it comes in quite handy on occassion, and I appreciate the fact that they keep their stores closed on Sundays.  Not too many businesses take a day off anymore.

Bliz, I thought I was going to have to hook a rope to my wife and drag her out from the last one she visited.  She's a "Stamp'n Up" demonstrator.  So, she's always looking for new ideas.  So far, they've had the most enjoyable employees of any retail business I've ever visited.

Sheila, until I started driving around looking for changes I didn't even realize how much was going on.  There's more.  She is very excited.  It's competition for her business, but that hasn't slowed her enthusiasm down any.  Have a great day!

I never even heard of Hobby Lobby but I just did a search of their site and it appears there is one about an hour from me - if I'm ever in that area, I'll have to check it out!

Thanks for the info....

Kat, they are huge.  If you have any kind of hobby, well maybe not collecting frozen toads, but almost anything else is there.  Give'em a visit!!

Mike, I can't tell you my level of excitement the first time my wife asked me if I wanted to go by Hobby Lobby with her.  I'd never been there.  As a kid I went to hobby shops with my Dad all the time.  So I have to admit that when I canvassed the store looking for the R/C airplanes and cars and didn't find them I was a bit disappointed...not that kind of hobby store apparently.  It is a cool place though and when I tag along I usually find something useful.  It's a great place for the kids projects for sure.

Mike,  I certainly agree if a major retailer like this is coming to town they have indeed done their homework and determined the community will support their huge investment.  My wife loves going to the Hob Lob as I call it! Plenty of ways to spend hard earned cash! I'm more of a Lowes kinda guy :>)

It is awesome, Andrea.  And, you're not alone.  Their twelve steps end with making a flower arrangement!  Good to see you!

Absolutely, Greg.  Definitely a great place to find kid projects.

John, I guess it's kind of the Lowes of hobbyst.  8-)

We have a Hobby Lobby and I love it!  They run great sales so its easy to snag a deal on something you love if you have time to wait for it to be on the weekly special.  Very convenient when decorating for the holidays!  This store will be a big boom to your economy!

Mike - Hobby Lobby is coming to my area too.  They must be doing pretty well to be expanding as fast as they are.  The good thing is that they are taking up space that was left vacant when some major chains went out of business a few years ago.

Jim, that's exactly what they did in Winchester.  Commercial real estate is cheap today.  So, it's a good time to buy!
