The Milford Home Tour

In addition to being a Realtor in Milford, Michigan, I'm also the President of the Milford Historical Society (MHS). The MHS was founded in 1974 by a group of local Milford residents who wanted to preserve the history of our little Village. The main mission of the MHS is running the Milford Historical Museum at 124 E. Commerce St in Downtown Milford. We also run a  very nice web site - www.milfordhistory.org.

The MHS runs several events each year, including the Independence Day Parade, which is always a favorite with area residents. Some of our event are aimed at fund raising to support our mission. The Annual Milford Home Tour is the primaryHome Tour Home fund raiser each year. It occurs on the third weekend in September each year - this year September 17 & 18.

The Home Tour features local homes, mostly historic homes, but that is not a firm requirement. This year we have 4 historic homes on the tour and one newer one in which the owner has arrayed a collection of antique and unique home furnishing items.

This year the Home Tour is walkable. Four of the homes are within 2 blocks of each other and the newer home is within 1/2 mile of the others. Each home has docents in it to give the history and background fo the home and to point out the interesting items that may be in the home.

In addition to the five homes on the tour, the Historical Museum will be open, as well as the Log Cabin next to the fire station and the Pettibone Creek Powerhouse - a water powered, power generation station that was built by Henry Ford and designed by Albert Khan.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for seniors. Tickets may be purchased at the Museum or at each house on the Tour. The Tour starts both days at 11 AM and runs until 5 PM.

On Sunday there is also the Milford Car Show which takes up all of Main Street, and the Tractor Show, which is held oout at the Huron Valley State Bank parking lot. The Huron Valley Rotary Club will also have their annual rubber duck race on Sunday; so, there'll be lots to do in Milford that day. Come out and spend a day in our delightful little village.
