Boost Your Business by Connecting The People Through an Online Forum

First of all, I did not come up with this idea. I am here just to tell the story of one successful agent in my area: Frisco real estate market.

A Little History Lesson: A few years back, Frisco (a suburbs located 25 miles north of Dallas, Texas) was booming with many people moving into the city by the hundreds every month. There was this website (an online forum actually) connected the residents of Frisco and its surrounding cities. This very smart real estate agent saw the potential and bought this forum from its founder(s). He became the exclusive real estate agent for the website and because of his "contribution, he is viewed and thought-of as the "to-go realtor" in Frisco - if you wanted real estate help!

(See how its users absolutely love this agent: Realtor Recommendation and Realtor Recommendation 2)

This strategy works because he first made the commitment to help others (connecting people who would otherwise never know each other). You see friendships form in this online community - very much like Active Rain. Some posters consider this site even "more exciting" than afternoon soap opera when several posters have online confrontations with others.

It can be pretty exciting and challenging to operate. It is a daunting task. And it is a business in itself - with the corporate sponsors, etc. But this strategy works - if the population in your area is internet-savvy.

Loreena - This stategy is a good one: the agent gave to the community and in turn received business.  Certainly a great way to get your name out there.

NOw this is a great idea.  It looks technically challenging, but one worth the learning curve.  Frankly this is one of the best community web sites that I've seen.  Thanks for sharing!!

I agree.  We have one agent who developed an incredible community website (www.flagleronline.com) which has one of the largest memberships for forums in the area.  I think her and her husband (who bult the service together), have the right idea in that to be fair . . . herself and other Realtors are not allowed to advertise themselves on the forum itself.  She participates in many different topics as well.  But the site also includes a business directory that Realtors can advertise for free on and the Real Estate section is hers.

You just have to watch with the forums though because of the type of content that will find its way there, and it is a lot of work.  We have another forum in the area that I can discuss topics as a Real Estate professional and becomes more like marketing so-to-speak.  But much of the forum is negative in tone and tends to paint a false image of the area, so I don't spend very much (almost none at all) there but have received some leads from it.  My recommendation is to make sure you have a real good plan in place if you set this up and have the resources to manage it.

Great post.

I have many online friends that have turned into real friends. I have been doing the online forums for a while.

Kind of like a big networking group.
