The Anywhere, America appearance of South Pasadena with its many tree-lined streets with character homes often stand in for commericals, television shows, movies and print media. Iowa? No, it's South Pasadena. Backlot at Universal? Nope, again it's South Pasadena. Last week, in front of Kaldi, the coffee shop near the South Pasadena Library, I drove passed a half dozen NYC cabs -- huh, you guessed it, filming taking place in South Pasadena.
Those of who live or visit South Pasadena will find unique shopping and dining plus the Mission Station of the Gold Line light rail system gives a new alternative for commuting to/from the city.
In addition to its grand old Craftsman and other character homes, you can also find condominiums and towhomes the blend seamlessly throughout the city.

According to the local multiple listing service, there were 13 properties sold in the condo, townhome and loft category in the month of August. Sold prices ranged from $330,000 to $583,000. Interestingly enough, the low/high end of the sales board for the month of August were in the Mission Commons new development at the southeast corner of Fremont and Mission. The median sales price for August 2011 was $443,800. In August 2010, there were six properties sold in the category ranging in closed prices from $422,000 to $665,000 with a median sales price of $524,000 in South Pasadena.
There are currently 22 properties in the condo, townhome and loft category on the market actively for sale. They range in price from $149,500 which is a small own-your-own unit on Orange Grove with 443 square feet--because it is an OYO(own-your-own), a buyer will probably need to pay cash(another reason it has been on the market for almost four months). At the upper end of prices, a unit on Ramona with four bedrooms is available for $699,000. There are three units in escrow and they range in price from $298,000 to $538,800.
