Freda: I am moving to the Washington DC area from Huntsville AL.

Where is the best place around here to go on long runs, bike rides or roller blading adventures?

Steve: Freda, probably the most popular place for REALLY LONG ADVENTURES is the Washington and Old DominionRailroad trail.

It is around 45 some miles long, 9 feet wide and even has parts where you can ride horses safely.

DC at dawn from the VA side

You can check it out at:Old Dominion Park as well as Trail link (you can find other local places for adventure on this site)

Friends of ours will routinely ride from Reston into Vienna VA, with ones in really good condition riding all the way in to the Potomac River across from DC.

Hello Steve and Jan,

If you go across the Potomac to the Poolesville area; every weekend you will see bikers riding from Whites Ferry to Sugarloaf mountain and along the canal paths.  Happy biking.

Steve  Several years ago I sold a home in Vienna to a couple that wanted proximiti to the W & OD trail.  It is an excellent adaption of an old rairoad route

Looks like somme great backdrop to the ride.  We have hundreds of miles of bike paths now.  Old railroad beds are the biggest part of them.

Hi Steve,

Oh my, what beautiful photos. I can't imagine living in the D.C. area and seeing those landmarks daily. I wonder if it ever gets old? I don't think it would for me, I've been there multiple times, but would love to see them again.
