Major Flooding in Upper Marlboro, MD

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 New Millennium

The DC area has been experiencing a spell of really bizarre weather and natural disasters.  It all started 2 weeks ago with an earthquake that caused damage to several structures.

This was followed closely by Hurricane Irene which resulted in lots of downed trees and hundreds of thousands of people without power.

Now we are dealing with the remnants of Tropical storm Lee which has created the heaviest rain I can ever remember seeing.  It started raining on Monday afternoon and it has not stopped since.

Downtown Upper Marlboro is flooded with cars being submerged to their roofs in water.  The PG County Court House and the  government offices are all flooded and closed.

Schools in several counties are already closed tomorrow.

There are reports that at least 2 people have unfortunately lost their lives in the flooding.

Major roads are closed including I-95 which is closed in parts in Virginia.  I have no memory of I-95 ever being closed because of flooding.

Rain estimates are that over 8 inches of rain have fallen in the Upper Marlboro area with other parts of metro DC reporting even higher totals.

It is important to remember not to try to drive through high water.  It is better to be safe than sorry.

Amazing pictures of the DC area flooding

What's most amazing is that the rain continues.  I can only imagine what tomorrow will look like.

Stacey-Ann that sounds terrible, I had no idea.  Stay safe and dry.  You have been in my thoughts as 9/11 approaches but now you will be in my thoughts and prayers for the rains to stop.

Stacey, The weather has been crazy all over the area.  Facebook has been ripe with pictures of the devastation that is being caused in towns where I would have never expected!  Be sure to check on vacant listings, water in the basements seems to be a common theme!
