Always in September the Elk River Fire Station opens it's doors to the community for viewing and then later a dance. This year is no exception.

In our house the excitement is beginning to build as the boys are getting ready to spend an afternoon wondering around the fire station looking at the trucks (and climbing on a few) and maybe even seeing the helicopter come in for a landing.

We appreciate the work of our hard working fire department and this year maybe a bit more than normal. With the event falling on the weekend of the 10th anniversary to 9/11... we will remember the many that were fallen that day.

It is because we have emergency workers that so many lives are saved every year and every day. The many fires that they put out affect all of us at some point or another.

If you have a chance on Saturday, September 10th 2011 to drop by the fire station in Elk River... they'd be happy to have you. This is a family friendly event that supports the safety and education of children as well as adults.

The open house (I believe) is set for 12-4pm  at the fire department on Jackson Ave in Elk River!

I think the timing for the open house is great!  I've always been a huge admirer of what the firefighters do for us.  It looks like your son was all smiles.  (Or at least I think that is your son.....I apologize if I'm wrong.)
