Is Rubio a Citizen?

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Birchwood Realty, Inc.

I asked this question, when answering a post yesterday, and so far have not received an answer.  I hope someone knows how to research the answer.

While listening to the radio, on my way to the office the other day, there was a discussion on Mark Rubio running for President in the future.  A caller was adiment he could not run because their was an issue with him not being a natural born Citizen.  This had something to due with his parents not being here legally when he was born.

I was under the impression that if you were born here you automatically were a Citizen of the USA, this caller was insisting the rules for the Presidency are different and carry heavier restriction.

I like Rubio and think he is a rising star in the political arena.

It does not make any difference if your parents are here legally or not if you were born in the US you are a US citizen

According to Wikipedia - he was born in Miami and is 40 years old. McCain was born in the US Panama Canal Zone when his father was deployed and don't get me STARTED on Obama and his Hawaii birth records.

Is there a special clause for someone wanting to be the President?  This caller was insistant that being born on American soil was not enough?

He is fine.  I did not know that Andrew Jackson's parents were not born in the US....he was which is all that matters.

Hi Lois,

Forget whether he is a citizen or not.

Can you imagine a Mark Rubio presidency?

Talk about colorful and interesting.

If nothing else, we would be well known around the world.

Maybe we would win the world contest of world opinion in 10 years!!

Yes, if you are born here you are an American citizen, a natural born citizen and can run for President. Liberals are always wrong when it omes to the Constituation, they don't read it, therefore cannot tell you the facts.

The only thing that is black-and-white about citizenship and the presidency is this:

  1. A child of a two American citizens who is born on U.S. soil is clearly eligible to be President;
  2. Anyone who becomes a naturalized U.S. citizen after birth (think Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger) is clearly not eligible to be President.

Purists insist that both parents must be U.S. citizens and you must be born on U.S. soil. This narrow interpretation would mean that Barack Obama is ineligible to be President of the United States.

Hi, Lois ~ I thought you were being facetious when you brought the issue up. The caller is wrong no matter how adamant.

If Marco Rubio runs and wins, it wouldn't be the most colorful and interesting. The commenter above must still be asleep, we have the most interesting and unprecedented presidency ever now.

Rubio actually takes his position seriously. I'm betting he hasn't voted 'present,' that alone makes him more qualified to be president than the one we have now. He will probably release his colllege transcripts at a drop of a hat. lol

Thanks Georgia..I am pretty sure this is what the caller was referring to, Rubio's parents owed their allegiance to another country when he was born on American soil.  Thanks for researching this.

Bonnie & Yolanda..I think most of us agree at this point that Obama's Presidency has changed the rule of law in terms of Who can become President; and the liberal press helped him do it.  We can't close the door now.  In the future when Rubio runs just watch the outcry from the other side.

Yolanda  I was the commenter above you.  I certainly was not asleep.  I supplied this data to clarify both positions from the website.  I was unaware of the "purist" interpretation until I recently met a very enlightened patriot who assured me that originally this was the language as to the qualification of the President. It seems that some where along the line the interpretation was tweaked, which has been the case with many of founding tenents.

I was under the impression that a child of one natural born American as long as they were born on US soil was sufficient.

Hi, Bonnie ~ I was referring to this comment regarding Rubio:

Maybe we would win the world contest of world opinion in 10 years!!"

Louis ~ It's curious how the left treats minorities who happen to be conservatives and vote Republican, case in point being Justice Thomas and Condi Rice.

It doesn't matter.  The precedent is already set.  Forget the Constitution.  Especially if you're born in Kenya.

You are correct this has not been amended, my guess is that the caller does not want to see Rubio run; his profile goes against the democratic view of a republican. Democrats expect certain groups to automatically be their supporters and when not they do not comprehend. His argument is the main argument as to why illegals wish to come to this country - the birth of their child on US soil will strengthen their position to also become citizens.

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

You are right Jay, the presedent has been made.

Ed, I still think a large percentage of those groups with still vote for Obama; they don't understand the Dems are using them, and I think many of them don't care.  They are not watching cable news.
