I wrote an offer on a short sale house on Union City, Ca. on Tuesday. I called the listing agent and asked if he had any offers. He said he had threats from three Realtors who planned to write offers, including me, but nothing in hand. So my client signed the offer and I sent it to the agent. He acknowledged receiving the offer.
By Thursday, I had heard nothing so I sent an email inquiry. No response so I called the agent today (Friday).
He apologized but told me this story: the sellers are both long time members of the military. They are stationed at Moffat Field, Ca. Because of the heightened terrorism threat level surrounding the 10th Anniversary of the attack on and destruction of the World Trade Center, the plane that was crashed into the Pentagon and the crash of the fourth airplane in a field in Pennsylvania the sellers both had their duty extended. The agent had not been able to meet with the sellers to review the two offers that he received. He said that he will meet with the sellers as soon as possible but that meeting may not take place until after this weekend.
I relayed the information to the buyer. He will wait. He understands the circumstances that are delaying the review of his offer to buy this short sale house.
The irony is that the tragedy of the 9/11 sneak attack is still affecting us ten years later in ways that we never contemplated or anticipated.
