One of the many fascinating creatures we have the good fortune of observing is the amazing Hummingbird. They come in all sizes, shapes and colors and are populated all over the world but something about them just lures us. These are the smallest birds on the planet and they weigh just a little more than a penny. A Hummingbirds heart beats approximately 1,260 times a minute. I have real little stethoscope you know! Did you know they have tiny tongues that actually lap the nectar, no they don't suck up the juice through those long sharp beaks. Two weeks ago while in Taos NM a mountain community north of Albuqueruqe New Mexico we got some great video and stills I hope you like. Watch for those little tongues that look like very fine fishing line. Enjoy the Dance of the New Mexico Hummingbirds. Turn up your speakers!
That's some impressive feeder activity. Aren't they amazing and fun to watch? I love the little buggers - so feisty. I would really like to see a video of you holding that tiny little stethoscope to a hummer's chest. That would be priceless. Might even win the Vbloggers competition this month. :)
Hi Brian, Glad you enjoyed and happy to share with my AR friends. Have a great weekend!

Hi Judi - Thanks for dropping by today. You're so right they are quiet feisty especially at dinner time. Indeed they always bring great entertainment.

Hi Ray - Well there were actually more Hummers than that at one point but Mr. Bully ran several off. You know how that goes ...LOL. A great weekend right back at cha!
Good Evening Debra -
Glad you liked the "Dancing Hummers". With the much cooler nights and shorter days they will soon be departing for warmer lands. Not to fear we will have the feeders waiting on them next April as they mirgrate back our way.
Many regards from the Q
Hi John,
This was a fantastic video. I don't know what is in your water but I counted 7+ hummingbirds at one time. Usually they are fighting with each other but all these birds were happy to share. Thanks for sharing such a great video.
Hi Kristin, We spike the water around here..It keeps those little hummers mellowed out and happy..LOL. Actually I think they just got tired of fighting and it was getting late. Glad you enjoyed and thank you for commenting. Have a great day!
