It's September, the kids have been back in school for a few weeks now, the weather is starting to cool off, and I'm just not sure what to do this weekend. What is going on?

  • First up, we have the UT VOLs, who will be playing against Cincinnati at 3:30 pm. Never fear, if you were not able to get tickets, this game will be televised on ESPN2.
  • If you want to do something special with the kiddos, or you are always young at heart, today is the second day of the Tennessee Valley Fair. The Tennessee Valley Fair runs from September 9 through September 18. Today, there are two special events.

Paint the Fair Pink Day
Saturday, September 10, 2011
Unite to increase breast cancer awareness! In partnership with the Knoxville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Fair is proud to present several exciting events on Pink Day: Bedazzle Your Bra Contest, Buckin' In Your Boots Race and Bake for the Cure Contest. Special Offer: Wear pink on Sept. 10 and get $2 off each adult admission.*

Tailgating at the Fair
Saturday, September 10, 2011
Celebrate Football time in Tennessee with your friends at the Fair! Special Offer: Wear Tennessee or Cincinnati team colors and get $2 off each adult admission.*

There are special events scheduled each day the Fair is open, so do check them out. you will undoubtedly find something of interest. Of course, there are always the rides!

  • If you are a History Buff, East Tennessee History Center is a must see. The TN History Center consists of the East Tennessee Historical Society, the Museum of East Tennessee History, the Knox County Archives and the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection.

The Museum of East Tennessee History's permanent exhibit is "Voices of the Land: The People of East Tennessee," which spans over 200 years.

  • For a little more of the Arts, nearby the Oak Ridge Playhouse presents, "Crimes of the Heart." Take, note, though, Sept. 10 & 11 are the last days for this play.

If you don't want to get out and about, this is a good time to catch up on the yard work now that we've had some rain, (okay, okay, almost a weeks worth!) and the ground isn't like cement anymore. :)

Hi Pat! Glad to "meet" you. Thanks, there are a lot of things to do here, that even I sometimes forget. (Yikes!) Perhaps blogging about events will help me to remember. ;)
