Penguin at computer desk ODAT Realty Metro Atlanta Buy Lease SellWhat is the reason for blatant discourtesy between these listing agents and the rest of the RE community? That is what it is - isn't it: Basic lack of manners that wastes the time of others?

Will's story below mirrors what happened to us last week. After profiling homes and having the out-of-town Buyers choose their favorites to see, we double checked the FMLS before heading out - Yes, their favorite was still active and the SUPRA lockbox would be open by 8:00am.  All systems "GO"! Meet the Buyers there at 8:30 am --
just in time to see the new owner roll out the garbage cans as she opens the garage to drive out.

And what about the foreclosure mills who write "Call agent for lockbox code" in the MLS?  Then they never answer their phones or return calls? Do the investors know what LACK of service they are receiving from these folks? They are NOT ethical real estate companies. They are unprofessional licensees who demonstrate their lack of moral standards. They neither serve their listings nor the buying community.

Please Just Change the Status

This past week has been one of so much time wasted because of other people.  My business partner, Belinda, and I were out showing homes and our clients fell in love with a bank owned home.  Since it was active in MLS, I figured it was available.  Before we wrote the contract I called the agent to make sure there wasn’t another contract working on it.  Of course I got her voice mail, so we headed back to the office to start writing up the contract when my cell phone rang.  It was the agent’s assistant telling me that they had multiple offers on the property and that the bank already approved one.  I asked why is it showing active in MLS when it is pending. She did not answer.

As a result, we wasted our client’s time and her hopes of buying this home and of course we wasted our time and gas.

This agent and her team lists many of the bank owned properties in Denver and this is the third time we have run in to this same scenario with her.  I will never show her listings again.

Belinda was so frustrated, she called MLS and filed a complaint.  The folks at MLS were not surprised.  They told her they constantly get complaints about the practices of this agent and that they would not take her complaint lightly.

Please agents, play the game right! Change the status to pending or at least put something in the broker remarks.

We always check before showing a home. Nothing worse then showing a home that is not on the market.

Dear Erv -

Nice for you that when you check, you get a person or a return call.

Pathetic for us as an industry that peers are so disrespectful about keeping listing status current.

Have a happy day -

Hi Lynn,  Thanks for re-blogging this one.  I wonder if it was just me or if other agents feel the same way.  I try to play by the rules, wish everyone would.  Have a nice day!

Hi Lynn. I hear a lot of the same frustrations from Realtors when doing inspections. I guess when you're in a "people" business, you'll have that! I'll stop by and say hello to Will.

"I will never show her listings again."

Agents don't realize how much they are hurting their reputation and their business.

Lynn, I agree with you and Will, it is just so frustrating when an agent does not keep listing status up-to-date.

More than irritating when the listing agent can't update the status of their listing in the MLS! Great reminder!

And my worst is where the MLS private remarks say "Do NOT call to ask if the home is still available. MLS is updated daily"..... only to find out they've been in escrow for a week!!!

Ah, I feel much better after that vent  ;)
