Pay it Forward - Skyping a wedding
The other day I got a frantic call from my neighbor. Her grandchild was about to get married and due to their ill health, she and her husband (who had just been released from the hospital two days previously) were unable to travel to attend the wedding. It was taking place right then in Israel.
They were really down and out about missing the event, a milestone in their lives.
Why the panic? Her son, wanting to include his parents in the festivities, had brought his laptop to the wedding and was trying to connect with them on skype. Though my neighbor, a retired IBM project manager, was not computer illiterate, his system, as computers go, was old and did not have a built in mike or camera. Though they had heard of skype, they weren't quite sure just what it was and had no idea how it worked. She called me to see if I could come over to help them connect.
I grabbed my laptop and headed over there to set them up. In no time at all they were chatting with their son and had a chance to meet and visit with the bride and groom, dance for them (if not with them) and give them their blessings.
Not quite as good as being there in person, but close! Instead of waiting for the photos and videos of the event they got to see it in real time and to be a part of it. And I had the pleasure of knowing that I helped make that happen for them!!
