Remembering the 10th Anniversary of 9-11-2001

By Eileen Sobjack

September 11, 2001 America was attacked by terrorists.  Three thousand people died.   Out of the rubble a new spirit was born in many Americans. The stories of heroism of fireman, policeman and regular everyday people are a testimony of the American spirit.  As a result of the tragedy on 9-11 many young men and women signed up to serve their country in the Armed Forces.  As we reflect on the 10th anniversary of that day our prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones.  We remember and honor those who died.

A few months after 9-11, President George W. Bush said “Now, we have inscribed a new memory alongside those others. It’s a memory of tragedy and shock, of loss and mourning. But not only of loss and mourning. It’s also a memory of bravery and self-sacrifice, and the love that lays down its life for a friend–even a friend whose name it never knew. “

“Terrorism against our nation will not stand.” George W. Bush –

Hi Bonnie,

Nice post.

I lived in Manhattan and worked in the financial district years ago. In fact, I stayed in the Vista Hotel in the World Trade Center plaza when looking for an apartment.

I had colleagues die and the memories are still vivid.

I not only honor those who died, survived and worked to rescue others in that tragedy, I also honor all throughout the world who stand tall for freedom and human rights!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be Well,

Bill MacBride

Hi, Bonnie -- it was one of our worst days, and in a strange way, one of our best.  Because it demonstrated that the spirit of sacrifice and devotion to country and community is not dead in our country.  Have a peaceful day, Eric ^0-0^

Bill and Eric,

Thank you for your responses.  We weren't really sure what to do today in relation to observing this anniversary of such a major change in our world.  We cancelled open houses, watched Fox News, watched football and the most beautiful tribute in sound, voice and beauty of the American Flag with the opening of football.  Even the Budwieser ad brought us to tears.  So glad we stayed home...as that was all we could do on September 11th 10 years ago.

Bonnie Jean,  Lee and I headed to one of the memorials in Cary yesterday.  It was beautiful with a children's choir, different cultural performances all set in one of our beautiful parks.  A perfect way to spend the day reflecting.
