Ramona, California Airport Holding Open House on September 24, 2011(Saturday).
The Ramona Airport's free annual open house will take place on Saturday
--September 24, 2011,
once again offering a close up look at vintage World War II fighter
planes, experimental airplanes, firefighting air tankers and
helicopters.
A
special treat will be a dedication ceremony at 9:30 A.M., for "Big
Jimmy" a 1939 GMC firetruck originally built for the La Mesa Fire
Department. It was recently discovered in a vineyard in Northern
California, where it was used as a water pump for grapes.
The open house runs form 7 A.M., to 3 P.M., Visitors can tour
the traffic control tower, the Classic Rotors Helicopter Museum, the
U.S. Forest Service's Helitac Base and Cal Fire Air Attack Base. A free
shuttle service is available from the main parking area to those stops.
Parking is free. A pancake breakfast will start at 7 A.M.
