Photo Essay: Motivation - Olympic Style

I haven’t been able to run or race in over a month because of a broken toe.  (My horse stepped on it.)   So, I decided to visit the US Olympic Training Center, located here in Colorado Springs, in hopes that it would help me stay motivated.

No two visits to the Olympics Training Center are ever the same.  If anything, there is a sense of excitement building up as the 2012 Games in London are quickly approaching.

Free guided tours of the US Olympic Training Center are currently held once an hour between the hours of 9-4 (Monday – Saturday)

According to their website, the Visitor Center hosts over 140,000 people each year.

On this particular visit, we caught the last tour on a Saturday evening.  We were able to watch some of the boxers practicing but everyone else was pretty much done for the day.  Even though I’ve never been a boxing fan it was still very interesting.

I noticed that the athletes are surrounded by motivational quotes.   There are four on the wall in the picture to the right.  There are fifteen that I counted in the picture below.  This is just in one gym.

Based on the sheer number of quotes in the different facilities at the Training Center, they really must help inspire and motivate the athletes.

So sorry to hear you have a broken toe. I bet your horse had no idea he even stepped on it! The Colorado Springs Olympics Training Center is magnificent and would inspire me to workout too. What motivates me day in and day out is when I treat my body right, I feel great. When I eat crap and don't work out I feel tired and lazy. That is all I need to stay on track. That and 15 years ago I gained 53 lbs after an accident and sunk into a depression and ate my way through it. Never again! Hope your toe is doing better and I have every faith you be back running in no time!

A good way to stay motivated is to focus on our goals.  Too many of us waste much time on busy tasks that are not productive.

Hey Sondra, sorry about the banged up toe but it opened the door to this instead. I love your inside glimpse of this training facility and the Ghandi quote is one of my faves. I would have liked to have seen the boxers or definitely swimming, running, basketball, or equestrian areas. I think quotations inspire us but we have to motivate ourselves from WITHIN. Wanting something really bad. With all our energy and heart. It is a drive you cannot get from outside you. The secret is motivation comes from the INSIDE. It is a state of mind and a don't quit attitude and keeping your eye on the prize.

Hi Sondra,

What a cool place!  I would love to visit there.  I especially like the motivational quotes on the wall.  True achievers think differently than the rest of the crowd.

Sondra, ouch!!  That must have HURT!!!  What I admire about you is how you take every single situation and turn it into a rainbow...  I had no idea about this training center so thanks for the info and it's funny ~ I just read that quote by Ghandi yesterday (it was a magnet) I'd not heard it before.

So here's to that toe healing quickly AND a fantastic week!!

Sondra,

I love that quote of Phil Jackson's.  He will always be my favorite coach of the Lakers and the Bulls.  We wish he would have stayed on.  A
