The First Annual ActiveRain Talent Competition has motivated me to learn more about video blogging as a way to improve the amount of people that I "connect with" in my daily blogging. This is something that I have wanted to learn for quite a while, but due to time constraints, it always seemed to be put on the back burner.

I wanted to get started, so I created a how-to video showing how to put your website URL on the back of your car. I used a question from 'Rainer Debbie Sagorin and turned it into a video tutorial on How To Use Your Car For Offline Marketing. I was planning on this being my submission to the Talent Competition, but after viewing it a few times, I was not very proud of the effort.

Video Real Estate Market Reports

I have always wanted to produce quality real estate videos featuring housing market conditions, but this very-dry subject requires some skills to make a video that many people will want to watch. Being resolute in my pursuit of gaining this knowledge, I have produced the following video for entry into the competition.

This video was shot in front of a "green screen" like the weatherman uses every day on TV, so my learning curve has been very steep. After watching the video (and sharing it on facebook, google and twitter of course) you can find the "how I did it" below the video.

How I Made My Real Estate Market Report Video

Real Estate Video EquipmentAdobe Premiere Elements 9In order to produce this real estate video, I created a green screen (plenty of "how to" videos on youtube) and shot several different sessions with my son Max. I used a simple flip video camera with no special sound equipment, though I did do some narrations with my computer microphone.

I used Adobe Premiere Elements to assemble my video. I had never used this program before so there was a learning curve involved. In order to soften the curve, I subscribed to Lynda.com for basic software training.

As all video was shot in front of a green screen, I needed to create my "movie set" online. I used google to find a decent entertainment center, and a flat screen TV, and then put them together with Adobe Photoshop to create the image below. It served as my background layer in the real estate video. I suspect I will be able to improve on this quite a bit in my future videos.

Marc, that's the million dollar question. Editing takes time, but if you can shoot good video that requires little cutting, a well assembled video can be put together in less than an hour. But if you work with an 11 year old, there is a lot of cutting that must be done, as some of the words are hard for a child to say correctly. For example, Max had no problem with any of the "share it on ..." comments, but he had a bear of a time with "Tallahassee real estate market."

Max is a natural.  Very engaging young man.  I liked the simple red/green graph showing the homes sold/unsold.

Joe,

great post.  Thank you for all of the solid information....maybe you'll go 'viral' and be 'found' by some bigshot on a nationally televised program :-)

Sincerely,

Michael Hobbs
