I'm still a newbie on this real estate blogging but I'm having fun and I'm fascinated with the shared information available. The easy willingness of other Real Estate bloggers on www.activerain.com to share ideas and thoughts and details with others is quite amazing and enlightening. Wow!
Today I was on Google (GOOGLE ME jim willis) Ha! trying a variety of different key phrases real estate virginia beach, virginia beach real estate, chesapeake real estate, suffolk, va real estate, virginia beach homes for sale, etc, etc ; results that used to be so strong with PPC.
I wanted to see what was coming up in organic results, especially when I added blogs, blogging, bloggers etc into the mix. (If I put my first name jim into the mix, my blogs were all over) Kinda of exciting--got to figure out how to make "just add Jim" work?! The point being that I can see the potential of blogging helping to make my services available to potential buyers of real estate in Virginia Beach, Va.
Now to my point, finally. I saw that a few Realtors(not many) were using blogs almost strictly as a strong sales pitch to home buyers and sellers. The idea that came to my mind was that I thought many home buyers and sellers were moving toward a more anonymous(sp) way of finding out a wide variety of real estate information ie by blogging, until they were ready to contact a Realtor.
This approach by a few Realtors seemed to be more of an aggressive way to blog that was not necessarily intended by real estate blogging ie that of a more passive, informative approach initially. Just wondering??!

Jim, I feel as you do. Those that use their blogs as a strong "sales pitch" will get the Google Juice (especially if they load it up with keywords) but I don't think that is what the consumer is looking for.
My website is my sales area so to speak. My blog is a glimpse of me, the real estate agent in everyday life. I do write for the consumer in mind, but also want them to be able to get to know me. When we meet-whether it be a month from now or a year from now- I want the consumer to feel comfortable with me.
I was trying to find a way to explain to my broker a few weeks ago the difference between a website and blogging. I finally told him that I thought my blog was a relationship builder.
