Remember the "good old days" when you pulled into a "Service Station" and actually got service? May I check your oil? How are those tires? All this while the gas was pumping in your car and you didn't have to lift a finger. If you aren't old enough to remember, this was service. Then when the tank was filled the "Service Station Attendant" brought you  a clip board with your gas receipt to be signed, gold or green stamps or your change and you never left your car.

Am I showing my age? Probably, because I did "pump" gas when I was in high school and learned what service really is and how it should be done. Now let's fast forward a number of years to our present day. You are lucky to find a "service station" because everything is self serve. You do everything yourself and you pay a much higher price for the privilege.

Unfortunately, this sounds like many Realtors in our profession. They have a lack of service to there clients yet get paid a large commission for as little work as possible. I know this is discouraging to full service, professional agents who have been in the business for many years and provide unparalleled service to clients. The provide "old fashion service" and I tip my hat to these people who do more than is norm and do it with a smile and no excuses.

Gaylen - We still have a "Service" station just up the street. You are right about the agents though. There are definitely a handful of agents that provide "limited service" at full price.

It will be interesting to see how agents go from order takers to service providers

I was the station attendent. I asked if I would check you oil and tire pressure for the same price at the pump. It was only full service. Plus I washed ALL windows.

Oh my how times have changed. I just dated myself again too.

Ryan - You are right, it is sad for their clients.

Brett - I hate to be negative but I haven't seen many of the "new" breed change there ways.

Susan - Thanks for dating yourself, I hate to be alone in my memories!

Gaylen - Some agents are only capable of being limited service, but they should at least charge accordingly.

Gaylen, I remember those days too, of course I wasn't' the one driving ;). I remember driving over the "bump" and hearing the "ding ding ding". I think with so many areas having a tad of a slowing you will see the agents that never learned "service" get out of the business. They won't be able to compete with those of us that give that Excellent Customer Service :) Great Post!!

Oh - PS if you ever want someone to pump your gas just take a drive to Oregon - its still law there. :)

Ryan - You are right on, not everyone can do everything but they should charge accordingly.

Jo - I use to travel to Oregon and I know it is still mandatory. It was strange to get out of the car t pump the gas and have the guy coming running over to do it. I didn't know what to do with myself.
