If I were to ask you right now...right this minute...to tell me what you REALLY, REALLY (with ALL of your heart) want out of life...could you do it? Could you put into words your dreams...your aspirations...your secret 'wish list' of 'THINGS I MUST DO BEFORE I DIE'?

IF you could tell me WHAT you want...could you tell me HOW you plan to make it happen? Could you share with me your VISION of how you will one day accomplish your greatest dream? Could you? Is your dream...your goal...written down...OR...is it sitting on some shelf in the back of your mind?

Fitzbugh Dodson said, "Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are lik e a ship that has set sail with no destination."

Proverbs 29:18 says, "Where there is no VISION, the people perish."

Charles C. Noble said, "You must have long term goals to keep you from being frustrated by short term failures."

We humans are created for a purpose...a divine purpose. Mother Teresa said, "We have not come into the world to be numbered; we have been created for a purpose; for great things: to love and be loved." I like to think about it this way...I am here (here being Planet Earth) on a mission from God! And guess what, my friend, SO ARE YOU!!!

Last month, I ordered a new laptop. I had my new laptop built to my specifications...exactly as I want it...to perform the tasks I need it to perform. In the same way, God built you and me...piece by piece...to function a certain way...to perform a specific purpose...HIS PURPOSE. IF my laptop does not do what I want and need it to do...it is useless to me. IF we spend seventy-five years living on this earth...but NEVER accomplish what we were put here to do...we have not really lived at all.

I want to challenge you to stop what you are doing...RIGHT NOW...and think about YOUR GOAL...YOUR PURPOSE. It is not as difficult as you think. Usually...we have a 'thing' that has always been 'there'...down deep inside of us. It is THAT 'thing' that comes to your mind when you watch an inspiring movie or hear about someone overcoming great obstacles to accomplish something amazing. It is THAT 'thing' that makes you want to take a leap of faith from mediocrity to greatness. YES...IT'S THAT THING!

Benjamin Mays once said, "The tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach."

18 Comments on Eye on the PRIZE!

Oh, Elizabeth...I think I like you more each time I read your posts! How awesome! You have to have a goal.

Also, didn't Habakkuk(sp?) say to write your vision down and make it plain? You have to have a map to get there!

Jason: God has given you a gift. He has given you a 'voice' and an audience. People are watching and listening...you are a leader. Have you seen the movie, 'The Ultimate Gift'? IF not....watch it with your family. YOU will be inspired!

Elizabeth

I believe in long term goals and yes I have them written down, short term goals are just as important they help keep you focused on the big picture and whats great about that is it helps you to change direction to your ultimate goal.

Elizabeth you're right when you say "It is not as difficult as you think". But unless I miss-read the comments above so far no one has taken you up on the challenge.

For me, I exist for God's purpose not mine...

1Cr 8:6But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created everything, and we exist for him.

Eph 2:10For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

...and I'm here to do whatever he calls me to do!

Whether that's helping an old lady cross the street, talking someone with a gun to their head out of committing suicide (it took a long sweaty 3 hours), giving up my commission so that someone for the first time in their lives can experience the feeling of owning their own home, etc.

I could go on but I think now you know my goal!

Great post as usual! ;-)

This time I'm going to start with the last comment and work my way back.

Armando:  You and I are a LOT alike, I think!

"For me, I exist for God's purpose not mine..." That is what you wrote. It is easy for us humans to say it...much harder to put into practice. The thing is...once we do finally release our lives into His hands...life is so much easier. The struggle is gone. That is what I'm finding in my life. I've always been a control freak. I was afraid of being out of control. What I'm learning...as I fully trust my life to my Father...is that I never was in control to begin with. I've also learned that my Father knows my heart even better than I know my own heart. He knows it because He created it. Only HE truly knows what will satisfy the desires of my heart.

Thank you so much for sharing...really sharing....your heart. Blessings!

Gary:  That is so great! That is 'balance'... We have to be flexible...ready to move when The Spirit directs us to move. Blessings, my brother!
