You can't help but smile when you come across a field of Sunflowers as far as the eye can see.

Sunflower Field Jarretsville Pharmacy

Well smile you will when you drive to Rt 165 and Rt 23 in Jarretsville.  According to an article in the Baltimore Sun, in 2009 the owner's of Clear Meadow Farm planted over 600 acres of sunflowers.

The field is across the road from the Jarretsville Pharmacy in Harford County, MD. Since then, it  has become an annual destination of photographers, artists, and flower lovers.

After you see the sunflowers, stop in for a treat at Jarretsville Pharmacy.  They have one of the last of the sit down ice cream counters.   They are open weekdays 9 AM-9 PM, Saturday 9 AM-7 PM and Sunday from 9 AM-3 PM.

The flowers are in full bloom this week, so be sure to take a drive and check them out in person!  Thanks to my husband Billy McGee and www.babybluesproductions.com for the great shots. To check out more pictures the sunflowers, landscapes and local events, be sure to visit his website!

These are LOVELY!  I remember in my farming days...the homestead across the street grew sunflowers.  In the morning they'd be facing east...and when I came home in the evening, they'd be facing west!  They truly are SUNflowers!!

Cara,  So pretty!! Too bad their blooming season is so short! You really have to catch them right!

Gina, It might be closer for you to see the one at McKee Beshers State Park in Potomac, MD.  If you go, you should try to check out the farm animal sanctuary (in Poolsville, I think) or one of the nearby orchards.  You can make a whole day of it!

Bridget, I know just where you were too!!  I remember passing by these fields last year around this time.  I love sunflowers, they just seem so happy when they are in bloom.
