Don’t Count Out the Cheese

Having come from the advertising and entertainment industry I can say with certainty Corporate America dose not live there. Now that my new life in realestate is in full swing I find myself constantly at odds with my former opinions.  From the avant-garde world of blue jeans, t-shirts and sneakers it was a long road to dress slacks, ties and wingtips. Although the change was radical it was not unpleasant or unwelcome. However the acceptance of the group mentality of trainers and coaches took a bit longer to embrace.  The Think Positive and Your Wonderful books and seminars replaced the casual pre-production meetings. The days where going to a movie was considered research have been replaced as well.

The" learn by doing" environment was familiar to me and therefore a good starting point to my realestate career. It did not take long however to see the value in attending seminars and classes to expand my knowledge base as well as rub elbows with some of the veterans. Attending a CRS course recently with my Broker it was pointed out to me that of the 40 odd attendees the vast majority where current or past Centurion Level performers in our area. This was an interesting observation . I reasoned that if such a successful level of Realtor was interested in this type of support it must have merit. So off I was to seek out additional areas to enrich myself. In one recent class a suggestion to read the book Who Moved My Cheese was put forward. I filed the suggestion mentally and that may well have been the extent of it. It was not required reading to the course so in all likelihood I would not have purchased it. As luck would have it in discussing my day at home that evening my wife had that book buried in a pile of materials from an education course she had taken some years back. As I looked at this unintimidating tome I decided to jump right in. Well the Motivation Bug was well under my skin by the end of the evening.  In the never-ending quest to stay out in front it is all too easy to overlook that the challenges on the path to success can be their own rewards. We just need to remember not to take for granted our accomplishments. Forward motion is a key component of success.

So now armed with my new found inspiration I am seeking out the roads that lead to my future successes.   If you have yet to read Who Moved My Cheese go out and get it today or perhaps dust it off and revisit the maze. In this market in the North East it's comforting to know that I can lace up my shoes and go find the Brie.

. If you have found anything particularly helpful I would appreciate suggestions for additional reading.
