Abbotsford is know as the City in the Country for many reasons. While the city has grown for many reasons the same relaxed country feel can be found here today in Abby. Opportunity grows in Abbotsford in the housing market, employment and education. Living in Abbotsford in many respects adds to quality of lifestyle.
This area of Abbotsford is known for its variety of housing opportunities for homeowners whether they are first time buyers, looking to upsize or downsize. Central Abbotsford is filled with mixed housing. You can find affordable, attractive condominiums as well as single family dwellings in the heart of Abbotsford’s “downtown.”
The central area of Abbotsford spans from Whatcom Road and Vye to Downes Road and Mt. Lehman. From your home in this area, you are close to just about everything. Shopping and recreation facilities, as well as places of worship, schools and even government offices are all within either a short distance away, on foot, by public transit or even less by car.
Many people leave their cars at home, finding it easy to simply walk short distances from home to shopping, from work to dining, from school to the recreation centre or rink. Everything you can possibly think of is close at hand or a short convenient and inexpensive bus ride away.
Those who find work in Abbotsford say that they enjoy the ability to work where they live. But even those who work in the big city find that, if traffic is good, they can reach Vancouver in as little as an hour. Of, if you prefer to save some gas, money and to reduce your stress, it’s easy to cross the bridge to Mission to catch the West Coast Express or drive to Surrey to catch the SkyTrain to get downtown.
You don’t have to go far to enjoy some “country” living right in the heart of the city. Parks are scattered everywhere. They are hidden gems in the middle of neighbourhoods – taking you for a stroll through a ravine, to a dog park, a hidden creek, a boardwalk through a swamp, along the river.
And if you want to pick your own berries in summer, it isn’t far to the nearest berry farm where you can emerge with bright-coloured fingers after a day spent in the fields.
Through the Abbotsford Minor Hockey Association you can find information about the minor hockey league. Be sure to check out our very own Abbotsford Heat in action!
Mill Lake, in the centre of town, is a place where you can often find families gathered throughout the year. It boasts a walking trail that encircles the lake that provides many a runner, walker or nature lover a place to enjoy serenity amid the hustle and bustle of a busy day. The boardwalk brings you out into the lake to better see the visiting waterfowl. There is a swimming area and picnic area which makes it a great backdrop for many a summer wedding, family reunion or simple get together with friends.
