Lebanon Hosts 29th Annual Country Applefest September 24 2011!
It's that time of year again! Lebanon is ready to host the Country Applefest from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday September 24th! Any festival that runs 29 years MUST be doing something right, and these folks DO know how to do it right! One of the unique things for the Country Applefest? Vendors are limited to arts, crafts and food! No politics.....no soliciting, just have fun! And another UNIQUE requirement for that arts & crafts vendors? The vendor MUST have made what they're selling personally! No imports from China here, EVERYTHING is handcrafted!
Now of course the Country Applefest is about more than vendors selling to you! There will be live entertainment set up at Bicentennial Park gazebo (Mulberry & Cherry), another stage at Broadway & Mulberry, AND strolling entertainers too (Tears the Clown with Balloon art, Dirty Dealin' Dave with his Magic Act, Casey Redmon with some musical fun, and even a Barbershop Quartet, the Double Nickell Band!
And on the stages, there's a bit of everything! Music (Lebanon City Schools Orchestra, Christian Contemporary, Country, Blues), performers (belly dancers, Celtic, clogging) and more....get the idea that there really IS something for everyone??
And what's a Country Applefest without APPLES?? We're talking thousands of Apple Fritters, thousands of Apple Pies, who knows how many caramel and fudge dipped apples?? Apple donuts too! And do you think there MIGHT be some apple cider on the premises??
And why not have an Apple Bake-off while we're at it! Last year's theme was Apple Bread, this year it's Apple Cobbler!
Now you can expect some crowds, and obviously the better part of Historic Downtown Lebanon will be shut down to traffic so everyone can have a great time!
Parking will be available at the four municipal lots (Sycamore St. between Silver & West Mulberry AND behind Golden Lamb, the intersection of W. Main & St. Rt 63 and Mechanic St. behind City Hall) OR you can park at Sweeney-Wallace Chrysler Dodge Jeep and ride the free shuttle.
And just in case you were thinking about bringing your pet to the Country Applefest, sorry, but that's not allowed unless you have a service animal.

Darn. . . when I first saw Lebanon, I got excited, thinking it might be Lebanon, PA. What a great event - I wish I could attend.
Why oh, why won't BL let me out of the office long enough to take a road trip? This sounds like so much fun!
Great way to promote local event. I didn't realize there is an Applefest. That is great and lots of fun.
You guys do such an incredible job highlighting your local events. I need to take note and start doing more of them, especially during the fall when there are so many going on.
Jerry, I like that requirement for something like this, it's a perfect fit to promote local suppliers.
Michael, We started adding the P.S. after getting calls and it being apparent that people didn't realize we weren't the actual event organizers :)
Joni, We've got to have that P.S. call to action to remind folks WHY we do these posts :) We're promoting the area AND hopefully our business too!
Mike, Lebanon is great about hosting festivals, quite a few throughout the year and all with big turnout. This one is 40-50,000 people expected.
Cheryl, Lots of options here, and I'd venture almost all of them are over 60 calories :)
Eileen, It's a great way to kick off the Fall season :)
Connie, It has been a quick year!
Tish, Unfortunately we don't have the time to make the bulk of these events. This and the Cincinnati Celtic Festival are the same weekend, and would love to ideally visit both. Of course we just bought 38 plants last night at the Natorp's Nursery Outlet Sale, so I suspect the next weekend or two will be occupied with digging holes when we're not busy with real estate activities :)
Dorie, And this one is different than most festivals. Non-profit, all volunteers, NO corporate sponsorships allowed. They have total control of the festival and keep it strictly focused on arts, crafts and food.
Joy, That multiple Lebanons in the U.S. can cause some trouble, and mix in the country and Google searches can get interesting finding what we want :)
CA, You can always go AWOL :)
Mike, Searching YouTube yesterday, there's apparently quite a few of them scattered across the U.S. This one is the biggest I know of in our area.
Dan, We've got to compete with Cincinnati & Dayton, so any chance we can throw a favorable light on our county, we're going to try :)
I like apples, especially the heritage ones. I like the idea of recovering all those different varieties from 200 years ago.
Good local post!
Leslie, You mean produce that still has plenty of TASTE and character left in them? I know the standard grocery store stuff has been engineered to the point of being disease free and pretty, but too often the taste disappears (e.g. tomatoes are a prime example).
Yummy...apples and lots of them :)! Sounds like this applefest is going to be a barrel of fun for your area BLiz :)!
Brenda, It's a pretty popular event for our area, and lots of tasty food. In additon to the apples, you can expect some Q to be available too :)
Ilene has been busy this morning. You two, Cinnamon, Kathy and me, at least from what I've seen so far in my circle. As for what else they do to those apples................certainly not Weight Watcher approved!
Roger, It's been a good day :) It's always a nice surprise when our Local posts make the Feature board :) Congrats on your Feature too!
This looks like it would be a blast! I love going to outdoor activities like this and the apple fritters have my mouth watering right now! Great and informative post!
ps take a look at comment #7 - spam
Brian.
Brian, The apple fritters are pretty appealing! And we double whammied the Spam comment when it came up. Hit the Report a Concern so AR can delete, and also copied the Spammer Profile and emailed it to AR Staff. They'll get 'em :)
Bliz, you do such a great job at localism posts. Not only do they look good, but they always contain so much useful information. Just curious, where did you get your photos? I love your call to action in the P.S. I may try using that idea.
Tammie, Was researching the event last night and found the event organizers had photos on their website that were specific to this event. We have plenty of downtown Lebanon photos, but nothing specific to this event. Fired off a quick email requesting permission to use them for our blog post on the event. Had an email back with 1.5 hours saying "Sure!" We put a little note at the end that we have their permission, and these event specific posts really add to the effectiveness. We've done similar requests and rarely get turned down. In general, they love the extra PR :)
Liz & Bill, I always loved apples, to have an Apple Fest now that is truly awesome:) Not only would I want the Fresh Apples, I would want the pie, the turnovers, the apple-butter....you get the picture:)
Endre, LA to CVG is about a 4 hour flight, then a 45 minute drive will put you right in the middle of Applesfest :)
Bliz
Wow that brings back memories of apple season in New England. We don't have them where I live here in SoCal, although we can go inland to the mountains to Julian (about 50 miles) for their Appledays Festival and pick to our heart's content.
Have fun - this looks like lots of fun. Hard to believe we are ushering in apple season.
Jeff
Jeff, I have a supplier or two up in New England way. One of my fall visits they took us out to a local apple farm for some fresh cider. Definitely knew how to do it right there, and who knows how many generations had been running the place. Glad we don't need to drive 50 miles for our local Applefest. Looking forward to getting to this one for at least an apple fritter :) Bill
