•1.                  Box of Kleenex and a bottle of Prozac (especially not appropriate if the Seller brought money to closing).

•2.                  A big jar of Vaseline (especially inappropriate if the Seller brought money to closing).

•3.                  A copy of the movie "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks (especially inappropriate for first time buyers, or buyers of old homes).

•4.                  A gift basket of Roach Motel and Mouse traps.

•5.                  A year's supply of Tilex, and a $ 25 gift certificate to "The Mold Doctor".

•6.                  A bottle of Viagra and a year's subscription to Match.com (especially wrong in a "divorce sale").

•7.                  A set of hot dog holders.

•8.                  A set of flea traps.

•9.                  A copy of the book: "When Bad Things Happen To Good People" (in bad taste for both Buyer and Seller, but for different reasons).

•10.              A long rope.  Especially bad in conjunction with Prozac and a 2-story home purchase.

•11.              Coupon for a complimentary EXORCISM.

•12.              Mouthwash and deodorant.  Maybe your best friend won't tell you, but your agent will...

Mirela, Agree with you, but some of them are funny. We had a closing recently with a buyer who was so awful that we were at a loss for what we be the worst thing we could do to express our displeasure. We figured out never talking to them again was about as good as we could ethically do. All of your 12 points above would have been to nice to consider.

cheers

How true indeed!  I wasn't even funny at all before embarking on this career...  All these years of Real Estate made me "nutty".

Thanks for the comment, Joann!

I recently had a client bring a postnup agreement to the settlement table that he wanted signed before they finalized the closing.  Everyone left the room for about 15 minutes while they discussed it.  Then we finished closing but we didn't find out whether she signed it or not!

That was a good one Cindy!  Thanks for sharing!

The BIG question is: "did she still marry him?"  If she did, stay in close touch with them, so you can get the listing when they divorce...  That should be a slam dunk!

Great!   This isn't a closing gift, but a few years ago another agent in our area would take very nice "cakes" to homes when the family was having a memorial service or funeral..... very nice neighborly thought....but his business card was attached with a note to call him if they needed to sell the home.    Sheesh....that is very poor taste.
