Clearwater Florida | Don't be Tricked - Beware Halloween Masks Illegal in Florida

Clearwater Florida Prepares for Halloween

IMG_4983Halloween is a fun time of year around Clearwater to cut loose, decorate your home or condo, carve a pumpkin and enjoy the lighter side of life by dressing up, attending Halloween parties and even going trick or treating with the kids.

Before you go out....Did you know that in the state of Florida, not just in the City of Clearwater, it is actually Illegal to wear a mask in public is you are over the age of 16.

It’s true. Now you might be wondering why? Well the way I understand it is that it is actually aimed at robbers – especially with respect to banks and convenient stores.

So if you are planning to attend a Clearwater party or be out in the Clearwater or Tampa Bay area – be sure to take your mask off before going into public places to be safe. :-)

We always enjoy a good laugh and this was just for fun on Friday!

Cyndee, What a cute short clip. Some Scary pumpkins you guys have!!!!

Cyndee...I can understand the no mask thing, especially in this day and age...I would also think that masks are a tad dangerous even for younger kids a they can impair one's view.  Cute pumpkins and a lot of great things going on there!

Cyndee - I would not have thought about this - makes perfect sense thanks for sharing

Cyndee-I did not know that.  One day in winter last year my son was wearing a ski mask, it gets cold here...The police made him take it off while walking in Daytona Beach.  Love your 2 faced little boy!  I might just blacken my front tooth for halloween.

Cyndee - I can understand the no mask law I suppose, but it is a sad day indeed when we have come to this.  In my area, people at work dress up for Halloween.  But, that too may stop one of these days.  You have many great things to do for Halloween in the Clearwater, FL area!

Cyndee - I just love Clearwater, I have been there twice and would love to be there during this time of year! Wonderful beaches, wonderful cozy place. That would definitely be a place I would make a home for sure if I could change my geography!!

Cyndee:

Interesting! Thanks for sharing this. I have to admit it makes some sense. Hmmm, wonder what the penalty is and how it is policed? I don't know if this is an issue here or not - guess I better investigate.

I never would have thought about masks being illegal but it definitely makes sense.  Looks like you have a bunch of activities to keep everybody busy.  Since most are free or minimal cost hopefully they will have a good turnout.

Cyndee, wow against the law to wear a mask. You know things certainly have changed since I was a little girl. It's too bad that we have to have laws like this. I would imagine that there are some places that probably have a law against trick or treating too since there have been so many strange happenings with the candy.

I just sometimes wish that I could bring back the good old days when a kid could be a kid no matter what their age!

Cyndee...that is a unique ordinance regarding wearing of masks.  I've never heard of that...but it does make sense if it's a crime prevention issue.  It's too bad that disguises like that have been used as a cover up for crime.

Cyndee- Hey, I did not know that! At our Church Trunk or Treat we are not allowed to wear masks, that is a rule no matter what state we are in. But I did not know about that law in Florida. Thanks for the heads up!  I do not like to wear them anyways. Katerina

Cyndee, I am assuming that is one of your kids in the you tube video.  I can't ever put my kids' video up because I'm cackling in the back ground.  They crack me up.  I was laughing at yours even!  LOL

Cyndee - it makes perfect sence to have this law, even though it took me by surprise

10/30/2007 09:28 PM by Dan Tobias - Northridge Real Estate Expert (Windermere Real Estate)

yes, it's true.  A number of year ago... there were a few Robbers that had on their mask, and went into several local banks on halloween and robbed them.  Since then, this law was passed, to prevent future similar crimes.
