So many times we hear advertising that Home Staging is, “Easy!” or “Not hard work….” yet time and again our Clients (even our furniture movers) are amazed when they enter a home we are in the midst of Staging and see US not only carrying heavy bins filled with accessories, books or bedding; but watch US move a sofa across the room in the blink of an eye. We are not “Point and delegate” Home Stagers. We want it done, and we want it done right – the first time.

Case in point: although this was an Interior Design job rather than a Home Staging project. The moving Company which brought our Client’s furniture over 1,000 miles to it’s new home had LOST the bed frame rails to the master bed. Obviously we couldn’t let our Client sleep on the floor and say “oh-well” and the movers weren’t about to take care of it themselves: so we did. We hit the local hardware store, bought the required wood, saw & angles and cut the frame slats down on site just before it was about to get dark outside. (Yes, this is ME cutting those wood slats)

So in honor of all “Get in, down and dirty” Home Stagers, we thought it would be fun to share some of the more frequently used terms you might hear us say during a typical Staging day:

  • Mover: “You can move that?” Us: “You’re kidding, right?” (as we have already moved it)
  • “It’s not heavy; just big and awkward”
  • “We should have brought more of……”
  • “The one on your right…. no, your other right”
  • “Can you come here? I need your eyes….”
  • “Nothing in this house is true or plumb…”
  • “Here: CATCH!”

Stagers and Designers, feel free to chime in with some of your favorite comments. These are just a few that we find ourselves saying on a regular basis.

Connie every agent in your market should be working with you. That is the kind of “get it done” we need.

Bwaahaahaahaahaa!  Connie - one of my favorite comments came from a REA who watched me move a sofa:  "My God, Julie, you are a beast!"  Now, she meant that in all the nicest ways - just that I was strong, eady, and willing to actually do the work!

One of  my lines is "I move furniture for a living!"
