The International Coastal Clean Up in Delray Beach...It's the Place to Be If You Want a Clean Beach!
Saturday, September 24 Delray Beach will hold the International Coastal Clean Up along Delray Beach. What better way is there to enjoy the beach and sand and help keep our beaches clean.
The International Coastal Clean Up, sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy will officially be held this Saturday, September 17th with additional clean ups throughout the months of September and October. With support and the efforts of Keep Palm Beach County Beautiful Clean, Inc... various beach clean ups will be held beginning on the 17th throughout the county and continue through October. Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Jupiter, Lantana and West Palm Beach are just a few of the many communities participating.
The Ocean Conservancy and their International Clean Up has over 25 years become the "world's largest volunteer effort for coastal clean up." We've heard that it just takes ONE... and that's how the coastal clean up began. One lady in Padre Island, TX, Linda Maraniss took it upon herself to do something about the trash she saw along the beach. She organized a group that grew to over 2800 Texans and in just 2 hours picked up over 124 tons of trash over 122 miles of coastline! (Thank you fellow Texans!)
And it's not just about picking up the trash along our beaches. By sorting and analyzing what is being washed up along our shores, we can help show our policy makers and corporations what's out there and what we need to do to stop it at the source. Data is not only analyzed and tagged but published by location in an annual report.
