Folks NOT in the "national real estate crisis" - what are you doing to combat the perception?

Like this picture, it seems to me that the media portrays real estate in sort of a random aray of colors creating something that looks good to the eye of the viewer (as they see it). Now, don't get me wrong; I understand that there are plenty of markets that have been hit hard by a loss of jobs, falling home values, bad press, the sub-prime and fraudulent loans gone bad, and general bad luck (do economists believe in "bad luck?"  - probably not!) But I am working in a GOOD market - prices aren't increasing at 20% a year (which I think is a GOOD thing) but they aren't plumeting either...Interest rates are good, historically...homes are selling (yes, with a longer market time but that's OK) and yet folks aren't buying! Why? The national media! So, what are you all doing to combat the image? If your living in an area like me, what do you tell your clients who are listing to the national media (who must be smarter than little realtor-me, right?) Seriously!

Hmmm.  I post about this all the time....think positive and tell your customers that things are turning around. Tell them to forget what they hear from the media...they are starting to listen since I no longer answer their phone call on the first ring...cause I am with many more customers these days...

You need them to listen to you, YOU ARE THE PROFESSIONAL...they are the media...

If you have a chance and want to read my post...I just addressed the media with my post re: Mr. and Mrs. Media....

Emily,

I see this everyday at my new construction community. The buyer's in our area were just listening to the national news with way too much interest. I saw a sharp decline in traffic which is now slowly coming back but they are still very skeptical - Buyer's right now need to be aggressive! If they think the price is too high - well write a lower one!!

 Good Luck

Well, here in WA (that is us!) the State Association is spending half a million bucks on a media campaign to fight it! I am excited. And now, my local assocation is following yours in doing our own media campaign right after.

I sure hope it works. I want to sell some more houses!

Oh- And I also make a joke out of it and ask "So... What else do you believe when you watch TV?"

Emily,  We recently received a mailing from WAR.  I'm sure you got it as well.  It posted the facts of Washington's real estate market.  It's all good.  There is an online version of it as well that you can download and hand to your clients if they don't believe you.  Check it out.

Thanks to all of you for responding! I have received the information from WAR and have downloaded their form - has anyone put it in their own format so it's not seen as propoganda? I think it is such a fabulous time to buy, even if you are in a down market! I guess we all just grab every bit of information we have, arm ourselves, and go out to our clients with a great big smile!

Have Fun!
