Okay, so you're sitting there, late at night, staring at your computer screen with that blank, zombie-like expression, wondering "What in the World am I going to write about?

Well, don't get discouraged, Sports Fans. We've all made that incredibly scary first jump into the great expanse known as the Blogosphere. You're probably feeling pretty vulnerable about now, aren't ya? I mean, you're putting yourself out there, for all to see! What if they don't like me? What if I don't get any comments? Will they laugh at me? Will someone flag my post for Stupidity? (thank goodness that isn't a category for flagging!)

Allow me, if I may, to give you some really simple and basic tips on how to make your blogging experience more enjoyable, effective, and stress-free!

                                                  ~     o     ~    o    ~    o    ~    o    ~    o    ~    o    ~

Today's Blog Tip for Rain Drips is entitled:

The 3 Powerful P's of Conversational Blogging

As you stroll along the beach, feeling the sand squish between your toes, do you realize that no two grains of sand are the same? Or when you're enjoying an awesome downhill run through freshly fallen powder, that no two snowflakes are alike? The real beauty of converdational blogging is that each of us can convey/communicate our uniqueness through our writing.

There is only one YOU. You are unique! (and obviously, as you read through many of the posts here on ActiveRain, you'll find that some of our members are just a bit MORE unique than the others!) You don't have to be the next Ernest Hemingway to author a successful blog. You just have to be YOURSELF!

While there is certainly much more involved in writing a good, quality blog article, I've found that most of the advice floating around can be best summarized or condensed into three primary components:

Your Unique Personality

You have your own distinct personality and it needs to have its expression through what you write. Consumers don't want to be inundated with endless, impersonal ramblings. They want to gain a sense of who you are behind your words. Two of my favorite examples of Personality Posters here on ActiveRain are Sarah Cooper and Chris Elizabeth Griffith. When you read the articles written by these two accomplished bloggers, you definitely come away with an insight into their unique personalities.

Your Unique Perspective

We all strive to be the very best at what we do. We consider ourselves to be dedicated professionals, constantly striving to master our chosen specialty/discipline. As such, our knowledge and expertise serves to form our opinions, viewpoints, and perspectives. Consumers want us to communicate what we know, what we've experienced, in ways that are of practical benefit to them. It doesn't mean that we come off as condescending 'Know-it-alls,' but that we freely share from the wealth of our experiences and expertise. Two prominent ActiveRain bloggers that come to mind are Lenn Harley and Broker Bryant. Both of these members are seasoned veterans of real estate. They KNOW what they're talking about, and they communicate their unique perspectives very effectively.

Your Unique Passions

Real Estate professionals are some of the most passionate people I've met! They're passionate about their work; they're passionate about helping people; they're passionate about life! Your passions are both professional and personal. Anyone who has read my blogs, both here on ActiveRain, and at SOUNDBITEBLOG, knows that I love to go crabbing out on Hood Canal and eat sushi. What floats your boat? What excites you? Passions are contagious and attract kindred spirits!

So there ya have it! When you write, allow your unique personality, perspectives, and passions to shine through your words. Your audience will find value and enjoyment in what you share!

You did it again Rich.  Bravo!   What an excellent article.  I'm not as timid about posting now as I was the first month - I think I simply decided to be *me* and run with it.  Loved this part of your post: "You don't have to be the next Ernest Hemingway to author a successful blog. You just have to be YOURSELF!"

Excellent job Rich!

Rich, can I tell Jason to shut up??

Hey, Rich!  <Purring>  Sorry about that whole headless Rich Jacobson thing.  Who knew you read those???  ;o)

We're so vain -- I wonder how many of us thought you were talking about us with this line: "some of our members are just a bit MORE unique than the others!"  I have a short list of "MORE unique people" -- shall we compare notes?  :o)

Rich, we think your 3 p's pretty much covers it. Think we'd add a "C", for consistency. And a sub-set 4th "P" for politeness. One of the great things about AR is there is so much of that here.

Now am going back to read your menu again.

cheers...

Rich -I love your P-s. You are right the people you mentioned, can't be mistaken for anyone else. Such voices also can't be faked. I don't write personal stuff, just real estate. It may yet emerge. As I write this, I realized, why I don't do it, but it's a separate conversation. Thanks for such direct and in your unique style written post.

No Kidding, Kaye, Rich can you persuade the AR Gods to give Kaye some points?. If I had read this 6 months ago it would have really helped me. But then I didn't and I hope it's not to late for me. Jason says I have a great voice-well, that was until we spoke live and now he is silent, lol. Just kidding around here Jason in case you read this. What a great friend he has become!

I know I am writing better, factoring in all the P's you mentioned. But I like the comment from Gary Bolen about Politness. What come to mind for me is P for Persistence. It is a struggle to get your voice and become known for the type of writing you do. One because the choice if subjects is so varied and so many possibilities to choose from.

For me, I am really working on is sort of "being a reporter" on the  one hand for my readers and occassionaly here on AR, the other side is about your P for Passion. Now I need to add more localism posts about communities and publish more of my market forcasts. But I am getting there.

Your post should be included in an idea I expressed about an archeiv set up by ActiveRain with just posts that would really help someone starting out. May be a separate location away form all the words being out out here.  Not so much rules and regs but real how to's with a glossary of terms , like wordpress and meme. I thought a meme was a nat from a South Florida beach. That was correctly pointed out asa  no seme, not a meme. :-)

Great post and hope you have a contest soon. I want to win one of these puppies, lol. Win a contest not a puppy, lol Have two and they are quite enough, thanks.

PS, if my comments are getting too long , just snip them . William

Rich,

I could tell the time I met you that you were filled with passion. Through your writings I hear and feel your passion for your family and your work and occasionally crabs. This is partly why we have ended up being a strong collection of personalities here in the rain. You and the uppers show your passion through your relationships with us all.

For a man that puts up with so many women and their hormones you take it all very well! Good thing you're a blonde or your gray would be showing! We can all take a little blame for that!

You're a good p,p,p, person.

Later in the rain with hugs, Deb

Rich -

Great tips!  Thanks!

The issue here isn't top-notch writing - few of us are writers by trade - we sell Real Estate, you know.  But it's the human side, and the expert side, that needs to come through in a readable and easy to understand way.

That being said, even if you're not 100% comfortable with writing post material - blog away!  You'll get better at it, no doubt, with practice.

AR - thanks for changing my business life!

Great post.  I've been thinking for the last two weeks about what to post, instead of posting.  I'll go let my p's do the posting...thanks

Rich, I think I could learn to include a little more of all three P's in my posts.  I have mostly just presented information in the past, but I think the three P's are important in allowing people to get to know you on a more personal level.

I love the "3 P's" approach, a great way to sum it all up. Hopefully we will remember this at 3am when we're trying to get that blog post finished. :-} Thanks for putting it into Perspective....

Thanks for the tips. Great post. I agree with the 3 Ps and the names . I would add TLW to the Unique Personality  list.
